My old screen looks so blurry when I turn fast in CS2 and my brother keeps laughing at me saying its because im playing on a potato office monitor or something. I signed up for this local tournament on Saturday and i really dont want to embarrass myself but i have no clue what to buy. I went to the store and saw stuff about 144hz and 240hz and g-sync and my head is spinning... i only have about 250 or 300 bucks to spend max and i need it like now. what is actually the best monitor for shooters that wont make me go broke or get confused? sorry if this is basic lol...

Catching up on this now... If youre getting that much blur, it sounds like your current panel has a high response time, which basically means the pixels cant keep up with the frames. Since you have a tournament on Saturday, you need something reliable that wont require hours of calibration. At your 300 dollar limit, I would suggest sticking with a fast IPS panel. TN panels used to be the king for speed but the colors are usually terrible, and cheap VA panels might actually give you even worse ghosting than you have now, which would be a total nightmare for CS2. You should probably look for these specific features to stay safe:

  • A refresh rate of at least 144Hz, but ideally 240Hz if your PC can push the frames.
  • Motion blur reduction tech like DyAc or ELMB to help with the clarity.
  • Reliable G-Sync or FreeSync compatibility to keep things smooth. Honestly, I would look at the ASUS TUF Gaming VG259QM 24.5 inch 280Hz IPS or maybe the ViewSonic OMNI XG2431 24 inch 240Hz IPS. The ViewSonic is kinda legendary for its backlight strobing which makes motion look incredibly crisp. Be careful with some of the ultra-cheap brands you see online tho... sometimes they use older panels that say 240Hz but have terrible GtG times. Just make sure you use a DisplayPort cable when you set it up, otherwise you might get stuck at 60Hz and not even know it.

I went through the same headache trying to find a screen for Valo last month. Settled on the ViewSonic OMNI XG2431 24 Inch 1080p 240Hz and im super satisfied.

  • Cost me about $280 which fits your budget perfectly.
  • Blur Busters mode makes movement look crisp. Honestly no complaints here, it just works. Its way better than a potato office screen for sure tho...

It is actually really disappointing that monitor brands still get away with selling office panels as gaming gear... really makes shopping a headache. Ive tried a few that looked great on paper but had terrible ghosting in real matches. Quick question tho, do you know what your average FPS is in CS2? Buying a high refresh screen is kinda useless if your rig is only hitting 90 fps anyway. For under 300 bucks, look at these because they actually handle motion well without going broke:

  • ASUS TUF Gaming VG249QM1A 23.8 Inch 1080p 270Hz is super fast for the price but unfortunately the build quality feels a bit cheap sometimes.
  • LG 24GN650-B 24 Inch UltraGear 1080p 144Hz is reliable and usually way under budget, though it wont be as buttery smooth as a 240Hz unit. The reason your current one is blurry is probably the GtG (gray-to-gray) speed. If those pixels are lazy, fast movements just turn into a muddy mess. You want something that stays sharp even when youre flicking your mouse around... if the response time is bad, no amount of refresh rate will save you.

in my experience, that blur is usually just poor GtG response times. ive tried many panels over the years and honestly, the specs on the box lie all the time. for cs2, motion clarity is way more important than just the refresh rate. i need to know a couple things before recommending the best fit:

  • what graphics card are you running?
  • do you care about color quality or just raw speed?

Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report back if it works!

Re: "Gonna try this over the weekend. Will report..."

  • Ive been through so many monitors over the years trying to find that perfect no-blur feel. In my experience, most people underestimate how much a bad panel holds them back. I remember buying a cheap screen once for a local and it was so bad i actually thought my GPU was dying lol. Basically looked like a smeary mess every time i flicked... i couldn't hit anything. Totally agree with the guys above about Fast IPS being the sweet spot for your budget. If you want another option that hits that high refresh mark without breaking the bank, ive had great luck with the ASUS TUF Gaming VG259QM 24.5 Inch 280Hz. It feels incredibly snappy and the factory tuning is pretty solid compared to other stuff in this price range. Quick tip for your tourney setup:
  • Use a DisplayPort cable instead of HDMI to make sure you actually hit the max refresh rate.
  • Find the Trace Free setting in the monitor menu and set it to 60. Dont max it out or youll get weird ghosting artifacts. Good luck on Saturday. Once you see the difference youll never touch that office monitor again.
