Im so lost trying to pick a new monitor. My old one is dying and I have like $400 max to spend before next week since I need it for school and gaming. Ive been looking at specs but refresh rates and panel types just sound like gibberish to me. I just want a 1440p screen that makes my games look decent without breaking the bank or being a total nightmare to setup. Its honestly super frustrating trying to compare all these random brands on amazon. Does anyone actually have a monitor they like that fits this budget or am I gonna have to spend more money?

Regarding what #2 said about that LG, it is fine, but I prefer the Gigabyte M27Q 27-inch 170Hz IPS instead. The KVM switch feature is a total game changer if you are using it for school stuff and gaming on the same desk.

  • Way better value for the price
  • Easier menu navigation
  • KVM is super convenient Honestly, you really dont need to spend more than that to get something solid.

Honestly, I have been where you are. Spent weeks stressing over panel types and ghosting issues just to end up with a headache. Over the years, I have tried plenty of budget displays, and you really do not need to spend more than 400 to get a solid experience. My current go-to that I suggest to all my friends is the LG 27GP83B-B 27-inch 144Hz 1ms IPS. It has been my daily driver for a while now and honestly, the colors are way better than the cheaper VA panels I used to mess around with. Setup is basically plug and play, so you wont be wasting hours in the settings menu. If you can find it on sale, check out the Dell G2724D 27-inch 165Hz Fast IPS. Dell usually has great build quality and the stand is super adjustable which is a lifesaver if you are stuck at a desk for school work all day. Just avoid the random no-name brands on Amazon. They look good on paper but usually have terrible dead pixel policies or flickering issues after a few months. Stick to the big names and you will be fine, honestly. Just grab one of those and save the rest of your cash for some games.

Just catching up on this thread. I honestly went through the same rabbit hole last summer. I ended up picking up the LG 27GP850-B 27-inch 165Hz IPS and honestly its been a beast for my desk. The colors pop way better than my old monitor. Setup was basically plug and play, which saved me so much time. If you want something reliable that wont give you a headache, its definitely a solid choice for the price.
