Which 4K monitor should I actually get for a PS5 and Series X that wont break the bank? Im losing my mind here because every time I think I found a winner, I read something that makes me rethink the whole thing. I looked at the LG 27GP950 and it seems solid but then people on some threads are complaining about IPS glow and contrast being trash for HDR, and I dont want to spend 700 bucks on something that looks washed out in my dark gaming room. Then I saw the Gigabyte M28U recommended everywhere for being budget-friendly, but honestly I dont know if I trust the build quality after reading about some panel issues. I live in the UK so prices are a bit different here, hoping to stay under 600 quid if possible. I just want to play at 4K 120Hz without dealing with annoying ghosting or fake HDR that makes games look worse than SDR. Is there anything that actually works well or am I just being too picky and need to lower my expectations...?
Just catching up on this thread. Honestly, trying to find a decent 4K display without dumping OLED money is a massive headache. If you are gaming in a dark room, IPS is gonna drive you crazy with the backlight bleed, no joke. I tried the Gigabyte M28U 28-inch 4K 144Hz and while it is great for the price, the contrast really felt flat when I was playing late at night. Before I suggest anything else, how big is your desk? Are you strictly looking for 27 or 28 inches, or could you squeeze a 32 inch in there? If you want to move away from those IPS panels, maybe check these out:
Re: Honestly, you aren't being too picky, you're just hitting the wall. I seriously suggest checking out the Dell G3223Q 32-inch 4K 144Hz.
Honestly, you aren't being too picky, you're just hitting the wall that everyone else hits when looking for budget 4K panels. I really wanted to love the IPS options but unfortunately the contrast ratios on those are just embarrassing for dark rooms. I had issues with that washed out grey look when playing at night and it really killed the immersion for me. I think you're gonna have a rough time finding true HDR performance at that price point because most of these displays just cant get bright enough to actually matter. Not sure if the build quality complaints are overblown, but I personally wouldn't risk it if you want something that lasts. IIRC, some people are having better luck holding out for newer VA panels or just accepting that mid-range monitors are never going to be perfect.
Same here!
