Im honestly about to lose my mind. I bought this 144Hz panel a year ago thinking it would be enough for Valorant and Apex, but lately ive been feeling like im dragging behind everyone else. Its gotten to the point where I swear I see people moving before I can even react and its just killing my rank. Im tired of losing duels because my hardware feels sluggish, you know? Like, I know its probably my aim half the time too, but it feels like there is this constant stutter or blur that makes tracking targets way harder than it should be.

So im finally biting the bullet and looking for a proper 240Hz monitor. My budget is around 400 to 500 bucks, which I hope is enough for something decent that doesnt have a bunch of ghosting issues. I live in the states so shipping isnt an issue. I dont really care about 4K or fancy colors, I just want the fastest response time I can get without the screen looking like a blurry mess when im flicking. I heard some people complaining about IPS vs TN panels and honestly im just confused. Does it even make a difference for someone who just plays ranked all night after work?

  • Need something that wont break the bank
  • Needs to actually handle fast motion without ghosting
  • G-Sync or Freesync compatibility is a must because I get screen tearing constantly

Im ready to upgrade by next week because I cant take another losing streak. Which 240Hz monitor is actually worth the money right now for competitive stuff? Is there anything that wont give me major eye strain after a four hour session? Really feeling lost with all these specs...

TL;DR: Grab the ViewSonic XG2431 240Hz IPS. I honestly disagree about Zowie; this one has way better blur reduction tech for the price. I've been super happy with it gaming all night.

@Reply #2 - good point! The ViewSonic is solid, but if you really want to avoid ghosting, you gotta look at the overdrive implementation. I have tested a bunch of these, and for competitive play, motion clarity is king. IPS has caught up to TN panels in speed, so you dont need to suffer through bad colors anymore. Here is how these stack up:

  • Alienware AW2521H 240Hz IPS
  • Rock solid motion and amazing build quality, though the price can swing.
  • ASUS TUF Gaming VG259QM 280Hz IPS
  • Fast, overclockable, and gives you that extra headroom for tracking targets.
  • BenQ Zowie XL2546K 240Hz TN
  • Basically the gold standard for eSports, even if it lacks some bells and whistles. In my experience, the AW2521H is the best balance of speed and comfort. Whatever you pick, just turn off all those extra image post-processing settings. That is usually where the input lag hides.

Honestly, 240Hz is a total game changer for Valorant. I switched last year and never looked back. Just grab something from Zowie if you want that competitive edge, their panels are super reliable. You really dont need to worry about fancy specs, just focus on the motion clarity. I am super satisfied with mine and havent had any issues with eye strain during long sessions either. Go with a solid name brand and you will be fine.

To add to the point above: hardw34 hit the nail on the head regarding the overdrive. I have been using the LG UltraGear 27GP850-B 27 inch 165Hz for a while but recently moved to the LG 27GP750-B 240Hz IPS for my competitive rotation, and honestly, the motion clarity is night and day compared to older 144Hz panels. I totally agree that IPS has caught up. You really dont have to deal with the washed-out colors of TN panels anymore to get that speed. I play for hours on end and have zero complaints about eye strain, mostly because the backlight flicker is basically non-existent on these newer LG models. If you want something that is super reliable and wont give you a headache when you are in a long ranked session, this is a really solid pick. It fits right into that 400 dollar range you mentioned and the G-Sync support works perfectly for me. Just make sure you tweak the response time settings in the OSD once you get it set up, because sometimes the default mode isnt quite as snappy as it could be.
