Looking to upgrade my gaming setup and need advice on the best 4K gaming monitor. Currently running a RTX 4080 and want something that can handle 120Hz+ refresh rates without breaking the bank. I've been eyeing OLED options but worried about burn-in with long gaming sessions. Also considering high-end IPS panels. What are you all using for 4K gaming? Any specific models you'd recommend or avoid? Size preference is 27-32 inches. Thanks!

tbh i am literally in the exact same boat right now. i just got my 4080 and every time i look at the price tags for those new oleds i just cant pull the trigger... the fear of burn in is real too since i play a lot of stuff with static huds for hours. since you mentioned not wanting to spend a fortune, i have been looking at a couple of ips options that are way more affordable but still fast:

  • Gigabyte M32U 32 inch 4K 144Hz IPS Gaming Monitor - this seems like the best bang for buck right now. it has everything you need without the oled price premium.
  • LG 27GP950-B 27 inch UltraGear 4K UHD 144Hz - if 32 inches feels too big, this one is super popular for a reason. honestly i think a good ips is still the move if you want it to last for years without stressing about your screen dying. definitely following this to see what else people suggest tho...

^ This. Also, honestly, the IPS panels are just not as good as expected for high-end gaming once you have seen the blacks on an OLED, but the reliability aspect is super annoying. I had issues with backlight bleed on my last display and it drove me crazy during night scenes.

  • Check out the RTINGS website for their actual burn-in test results
  • Watch some Hardware Unboxed videos on YouTube about panel longevity
  • Look for threads on the monitors subreddit for user-reported defects There is a really solid video comparing these panels, just search for 4K gaming monitor comparison 2024 and it is basically the first result. People spend way too much time overthinking this, just go check out the data on those sites and it should clear up the confusion for you.
