So I finally saved up enough cash to upgrade my desktop setup and I am honestly so pumped to get rid of my tiny old screen. I saw a streamer playing some racing games on this massive curved screen that basically wrapped around their whole field of vision and it looked like you were literally inside the car. I have absolutely no clue how the tech works or what all the specs like refresh rates or panel types actually mean, sorry if this is a super basic question but I am totally lost. I have about 800 to 1000 bucks to spend and I really want something that makes games like Cyberpunk or Forza feel super realistic. I live in the US and I am hoping to get this set up before my week off work next month. I keep seeing terms like OLED and VA and IPS and I have no idea which one is actually better for just sitting back and getting lost in a game. Does anyone have a recommendation for an ultra-wide that is basically plug and play for a complete newbie like me who just wants the best immersion possible without having to be a computer scientist to get it working...

Honestly for immersion you want that curve. OLED is king for colors but it costs a bit more. If you want a solid middle ground check these out:

  • Alienware AW3423DWF 34-inch QD-OLED 165Hz
  • The colors are insane, honestly hard to beat for Cyberpunk.
  • Gigabyte G34WQC A 34-inch VA 144Hz
  • Way cheaper, great curve, but blacks arent quite as deep as OLED. Either way you will be blown away compared to your old monitor.

Coming back to this, you might want to consider the LG 34GP83A-B 34-inch IPS 144Hz for a solid, reliable experience. Check out rtings.com for in-depth testing before you buy anything.

^ This. Also, be careful with the burn-in risk if you leave your desktop static for hours. I would suggest looking at the Dell S3422DWG 34-inch VA 144Hz if you want something reliable that wont break the bank or have those panel issues. Its built like a tank and saves you plenty of cash for games. Just make sure your desk is deep enough, these things are massive.
