So I finally managed to get a PS5 after saving up forever and I hooked it up to my old bedroom TV and man... it looks really bad. Like everything is blurry and laggy and I feel like I'm not even playing on a next gen console. I'm honestly so lost with all these technical words I see on Amazon and Best Buy. I keep seeing things like 144Hz and 4K and HDMI 2.1 and I have absolutely no idea what any of that actually means or if I even need it to make the PS5 look like the videos I see online.
I really need to find a monitor under $500 because that is literally all the money I have left in my fun budget for the month and I'm really trying to get this set up by Friday night since I have the whole weekend off to finally dive into Spider-Man and some Warzone. I'm in the US and there's a Best Buy near me but every time I go in there the employees start talking about frame rates and response times and my brain just kind of shuts off.
Is there a specific one that is basically plug and play for the PS5? Someone told me I need 120Hz to play Call of Duty properly but then I saw a 4K monitor that was only 60Hz and I dont know which one is more important. Also what is the deal with the screen size? Is 27 inches too small or should I go bigger? I'm sorry if these are really dumb questions I just really dont want to mess this up and buy something that doesn't even work right with the console.
If someone could just tell me like buy this exact model it would save my life because I've spent the last three hours looking at reviews and I'm more confused now than when I started...
^ This. Also, been thinking about your setup and honestly, chasing the cheapest 4K option was a total mistake I made last year. I bought a budget panel thinking it would be next gen but the colors were so washed out it looked worse than my old TV. Super disappointing when you have been saving up forever. I eventually realized that for under $500, a high-quality 1440p screen beats a mediocre 4K one every time.
Jumping in! Regarding what #1 said about 1440p, I actually went 4K with the Gigabyte M28U 28 inch 4K 144Hz Gaming Monitor!
TL;DR: Get a 1440p monitor with 120Hz support like the LG 27GP850-B 27-inch Ultragear QHD Gaming Monitor. Actually went through this exact struggle last month. Picked this up and its honestly perfect for PS5. You get the 120Hz for Warzone so its super smooth, and 1440p makes Spider-Man look way better than that old TV. Im really satisfied with it, no complaints... just plug it in and you are good to go for Friday.
Been using this for years, no complaints
