Which MagSafe power bank offers the best charging speed?

I need to know which MagSafe power bank actually charges an iPhone the fastest because I'm tired of these things just barely keeping my battery from dying while I'm actually using the phone. My iPhone 15 Pro is usually fine but once I start using GPS and taking photos it just drains so fast. I'm going on a trip to London in three weeks for my cousins wedding and I know I'm gonna be out all day without a plug so I need something reliable.

I've narrowed it down to two or three choices but the specs are kinda confusing. I'm looking at:

  • The Anker MagGo (the new 10k one with the screen) that says it has Qi2 support for 15W.
  • The Belkin BoostCharge Pro which also claims fast speeds.
  • Maybe the ESR HaloLock but I heard it gets really hot and then throttles.

The Anker is like $90 which is at the top of my budget but I'm worried if it's actually faster than the others in real world use. I've heard some of these drop down to like 5W as soon as the phone gets slightly warm which totally defeats the whole purpose of fast charging. I need something slim enough to fit in a jacket pocket but powerful enough to actually gain percentage while I'm using Google Maps to find the venue. Which one of these is the most consistent for speed...

To add to the point above: I had a terrible time with the Belkin BoostCharge Pro Magnetic Power Bank 5K recently. It barely kept up with my camera usage and the heat was frustrating. These magnetic packs just dont handle heavy apps well. Quick tip: honestly, just plug in a cable if youre using GPS, or the heat will kill your charging speed every single time.

Honestly, 90 bucks is pretty steep. I'd be careful with the Anker MagGo Power Bank 10K 15W Qi2 since it's the only one that hits 15W reliably, but make sure to check for discounts first. It's the most consistent, tho you might want to consider that heat will always slow these things down. It's probably your best bet for London if you can find a good deal.

Same setup here, love it

Building on the earlier suggestion, I actually disagree slightly with the idea that any Qi2 bank is going to be your best bet for a high-usage day in London. I think people get caught up in the 15W marketing, but the technical reality is pretty different when you factor in thermal efficiency. Not 100% sure about the exact Celsius threshold, but IIRC the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= iPhone+15+Pro+starts+aggres&linkCode=osi&t=t=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone 15 Pro starts aggressive thermal throttling as soon as the internal sensors detect a certain heat level, which happens almost instantly if you're using GPS and a magnetic charger at the same time.

  • Wireless charging is notoriously inefficient, losing roughly 30% of energy as heat right between the coils.
  • Using your camera and Maps already puts a heavy load on the SoC, which generates its own thermal output.
  • The safety protocols in the phone will prioritize cooling over charging speed every single time. I am kinda worried that if you spend $90 on a high-end magnetic pack, you will just end up with the Charging on Hold message while you are trying to find the wedding venue. Honestly, if you want reliability, just bring a high-quality USB-C cable and plug it into the bank's port. You get a much more stable 20W+ Power Delivery (PD) handshake and way less heat. I know it's not as sleek, but for a one-time trip where you need the phone to actually work, the wired route is much safer for your battery health too.

Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

Regarding what #5 said about "Late to the party but this whole thread..." - it really is a mess trying to find something that actually works when youre out and about. I spent a week in Rome recently and had the exact same nightmare. My phone was basically a brick by 2 PM because the GPS just eats through everything. I actually tried to DIY a solution before my trip because I was so fed up with the throttling. I took some old copper heat sinks from a broken laptop and tried to rig them onto my magnetic charger with some thermal tape. Total disaster. It looked like a bomb at airport security and still didnt stop the phone from getting too hot to charge properly once the sun hit it. It is just so frustrating that we spend all this money on pro gear and then have to baby it the second we actually use the features we bought it for... honestly feels like a losing battle sometimes. I have basically given up on expecting any magnetic setup to keep up with maps and photos at the same time.
