im planning a 15 hour flight to japan next month and need a power bank that wont get confiscated by security but can actually keep my laptop alive. right now im torn between the anker 737 and that shargeek storm 2.

my logic was that the anker is super reliable and fits my $100 budget better but that shargeek looks so cool with the display and seems faster for my macbook pro. i just dont know if the shargeek is actually worth the extra 100 bucks or if its just for show. plus i heard some airlines are weird about the shargeek design because it looks kinda sketchy. has anyone actually used these on long hauls? im leaning toward the anker to save money but that storm 2 is tempting...

Ive done that exact flight and the Anker 737 Power Bank (PowerCore 24K) 140W 24000mAh is an absolute beast! It saved my life on a trip to Tokyo last year. Save your money for the sushi because this thing is amazing.

  • fits under the 100Wh limit easily
  • charges my MacBook Pro super fast
  • way more durable for travel Honestly, the shargeek is cool but that anker is just fantastic for the price!

Unfortunately, the Shargeeks thermal management is disappointing under sustained 100W loads. Ive seen units fail because the transparent polycarbonate shell lacks proper heat dissipation. Security at major hubs will definitely flag that exposed circuitry too. Pro tip: ensure the Wh rating is etched clearly on the housing for TSA. The ZMI PowerPack No. 20 25000mAh 210W is a much more stable option for high-draw MacBooks.

Honestly, I was pretty let down by the whole aesthetic power bank trend recently. I spent way too much on a fancy transparent one and it just didnt live up to the hype for me. The screen was cool for about five minutes but then I realized it just drained the battery faster and made the whole thing run hotter than my older, cheaper bricks. Plus, the build quality on those boutique brands usually isnt as solid as the big names. I actually had a buddy get pulled aside by security because his charger looked suspicious with all the wires showing. It is such a hassle when you are just trying to catch a long flight. If you want my advice, stick to the basics and avoid the flashy stuff.

  • Just get any high-capacity unit from Ugreen Power Bank and call it a day. They are super reliable and way more low-profile for travel.
  • Look into the laptop-grade options from Baseus Portable Charger. They usually hit that 100W output mark without the massive price tag.
  • Focus on the total watt-hours rather than the screens. As long as it is under 100Wh, you are gold for most airlines.
  • Higher wattage usually means more heat, so the bigger, boring-looking ones actually tend to have better cooling than the compact boutique ones. It is kinda disappointing that we pay a premium for looks when the performance is basically the same. Save that extra hundred bucks for some decent ramen in Tokyo or something. You really dont need the most expensive thing on the market to keep a MacBook alive for a flight.
