Which monitor should I actually buy for competitive Valorant and CS2 because I am honestly losing my mind trying to make a choice. I have spent the last three nights reading forums and watching reviews and I'm more confused now than when I started. I was looking at the Zowie XL2546K because everyone says the DyAc tech is the goat for motion clarity but then I see people complaining that the TN panel looks like garbage compared to newer IPS screens like the ASUS PG259QN or the Dell Alienware ones.
I am currently stuck on an old 60hz office monitor and it feels like I am playing through actual mud when I try to flick or hold an angle. I have a budget of about $550 and I am planning to buy something this weekend since my current screen is starting to flicker and its driving me crazy. I live near a Micro Center so I could go pick one up but I dont want to waste my money on 360hz if its just marketing fluff. Is the jump from 240 to 360 even noticeable for someone who isnt a pro? I just want the lowest input lag possible so I can finally stop losing duels because of hardware lag...

Honestly, the XL2546K is a bit of a letdown in 2024. I have tested it extensively and the contrast ratios are just depressing, usually hitting below 800:1. If you are doing anything besides pure gaming, it looks washed out and grainy. DyAc is okay but it adds a tiny bit of input latency that most reviewers ignore. Plus, the strobe crosstalk on that specific panel is pretty noticeable if you dont tweak the service menu. Unfortunately, the older 360Hz IPS panels like the ASUS ROG Swift PG259QN 24.5 inch 360Hz Gaming Monitor also have issues. The response times on those early panels often cant keep up with the 2.8ms window required for true 360Hz, so you get some nasty overshoot or trailing. It isnt as good as the marketing makes it out to be. If you want the best technical balance for that $550 budget, you should look at the ViewSonic Omni XG2431 23.8 inch 240Hz Gaming Monitor. The ViewSonic actually has better strobe tuning than Zowie via the Blur Busters Strobe Utility. If you really want 360Hz, the Alienware AW2523HF 24.5 inch 360Hz Gaming Monitor is a much better buy than the ASUS you mentioned. It uses a faster panel that actually handles the refresh rate without making the image a smeary mess. Just skip the first gen 360Hz stuff, its basically outdated tech now.
Look, i have been through a dozen monitors since the crt days and the choice is simpler than the marketing makes it seem. Since youre on 60hz right now, literally anything is gonna feel like magic.
