So I finally caved and bought a PS5 Slim because I wanted to play those exclusives without waiting two years for a PC port but man the monitor market is a mess right now. Ive been a PC guy for a decade so I know my way around refresh rates and panel types but consoles are just... different? I hooked it up to my old 1440p 144Hz panel and it looks okay but I want that full 4K 120Hz experience with VRR and HDR that actually works.

The problem is I keep seeing these monitors advertised as HDMI 2.1 but then you read the fine print and they only have 24Gbps bandwidth or something stupid so you dont get full chroma. I looked at the Gigabyte M28U since its cheap but Ive heard the HDR is basically fake. Then theres the LG 27GP95R which people say is great but Im worried about the contrast being trash in a dark room. I've got about $750 saved up here in the US and Im hoping to grab something this weekend.

Does anyone actually have a PS5 hooked up to a 4K screen that handles the HDR well without being a total OLED price tag? Like is the Sony Inzone M9 still a buggy mess or did they fix the firmware because it seems like the obvious choice but the reviews are all over the place...

In my experience, Gigabyte M28U 28 inch 4K 144Hz is the best budget win. Ive tried many over the years, and this delivers great value for any PS5 gamer. Good luck!

Like someone mentioned, the LG is a safe bet, but you might want to consider the Sony INZONE M9 27 inch 4K 144Hz if you want better HDR than entry level stuff. Most of the early bugs were patched out months ago. Just be careful with IPS blooming in dark rooms.

  • Full 40Gbps bandwidth for PS5
  • Decent local dimming for the price
  • Auto HDR Tone Mapping Its a solid middle ground before you hit OLED prices.

Re: "In my experience, Gigabyte M28U 28 inch 4K..." - i totally agree with that. Just get any 4K screen from Gigabyte or LG. I've tried many over the years and those brands are basically the gold standard for PS5 right now tho. They handle the technical bits better:

  • Proper VRR handshakes
  • Full bandwidth ports
  • Factory calibration You dont need to overthink it... just stick with those brands and you're golden.
