I recently got my hands on the new GeForce RTX 5090 graphics card and want to make sure I'm feeding it the memory it deserves to really maximize performance. I've heard faster, lower latency RAM can make a noticeable difference, especially at 4K and 8K resolutions.

Should I go with DDR5 or is DDR4 sufficient? What speed and timings would be ideal to get the most out of this beast of a GPU? Any specific kits or brands you'd recommend for top-notch compatibility and overclocking potential? My budget is flexible for the right RAM to complement this cutting-edge card.

For AMD Ryzen 7000/9000 series, the best choice is DDR5 6000 CL30.

DDR5 6000 CL30 is overall best choice for both AMD and intel.

Adding my two cents here. Honestly, I went a bit overboard on my last build and realized after a few months that I could have saved a decent chunk of cash without really noticing a hit in my frames. My current setup is running some decent sticks I grabbed on sale and it handles everything I throw at it just fine. Here is what I learned from my own build:

  • Diminishing returns are totally a thing once you get past the sweet spot of stability and frequency.
  • Youre better off putting that extra budget into a better monitor or a bigger ssd honestly.
  • Always check if you need to actually toggle the xmp or expo profiles in the bios, because mine were running slow for weeks until i figured that out. Basically, dont feel like you need the most expensive stuff on the shelf to get those high settings. Its more about making sure your system is balanced than chasing the absolute fastest numbers on a benchmark.

Can vouch for this

For the GeForce RTX 5090, aim for at least 32GB of DDR5 RAM with speeds of 6000MHz or higher. Brands like Corsair, G.Skill, and Kingston offer reliable options. Ensure low latency (CL30 or lower) for optimal performance in gaming and demanding tasks.

Ensure that your motherboard supports the chosen RAM specifications, particularly the DDR5 standard and the desired speeds.

The RTX 5090 is a beast of a card, so you'll want RAM that can keep up. I'd recommend at least 32GB of DDR5 RAM, clocked at 6000MHz or higher. Faster RAM can provide a noticeable boost in performance, especially at higher resolutions and with demanding games. Going for 64GB is also a good future-proofing option, especially if you plan on doing any content creation or heavy multitasking alongside gaming. Look for kits with low CAS latency (CL) for even better performance. Brands like Corsair, G.Skill, and Kingston are generally reliable choices.
