Late to the party but this whole thread is 💯. Glad I found it.

Like someone mentioned, the coil whine on some of these newer units is driving everyone crazy. Are you planning on doing any serious overclocking with that AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D or just running it stock? That really changes whether you should risk pushing a 1000W unit to its limit. If you want something rock solid, check out the be quiet! Dark Power Pro 13 1300W Titanium. It is definitely overkill, but the build quality is on another level and the fan noise is basically non-existent. Another solid pick if you want to save a bit is the EVGA SuperNOVA 1000 P6 1000W 80 Plus Platinum. It is super compact for the power it packs, though the cable stiffness can be a real pain to work with if your case is tight. Honestly, I prefer having the extra headroom with a 1300W unit when you are dropping that much cash on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. You dont want your PSU working at 90 percent load while you are in the middle of a heavy gaming session, right?

Re: 1000w Netzteil.

  • Yea 1000W is pretty much the floor for a 5090 setup. Just catching up on the thread here and honestly i gotta say im a bit disappointed with some of the newer units hitting the market lately.
  • Corsair RM1000e 1000W 80 Plus Gold is okay but honestly i had issues with coil whine on the last two i installed for friends. Not as quiet as youd expect for the price tag tbh.
  • MSI MPG A1000G PCIE5 1000W is usually a bit cheaper and solid, tho the cables are super stiff and kinda annoying to route in smaller cases.
  • Seasonic Focus GX-1000 ATX 3.0 is probably the safest bet but man they keep raising the prices on these. Speaking of spending too much money... I just spent like four hours trying to fix a wobbly leg on my desk instead of actually getting any gaming in. Managed to make it even more crooked and now my monitors shake every time i click the mouse. Basically wasted my whole afternoon for nothing lol. Anyway, just make sure whatever you pick has that native 12VHPWR cable so you dont have to mess around with those ugly adapters.

No way, I literally just dealt with this yesterday. Small world.

Honestly its ridiculous how much we have to spend just to get something that doesnt explode or buzz like a hornet nest these days. I was so stressed picking mine out because the prices for high wattage units are getting out of hand. Its such a scam that we pay hundreds and still have to pray for no coil whine or crappy fans.

  • Brands just slapping new labels on everything to hike prices
  • Quality control feels like a total coin flip now
  • Cables being stiff as a board for no reason I ended up sticking with a brand I used years ago and luckily it works well so far. Im pretty satisfied with how quiet it stays under load but getting to this point was a massive headache. Its frustrating that the companies dont seem to care as long as we keep buying the top-tier GPUs. Youll definitely get it sorted tho, just takes some digging!

To add to the point above: totally agree that 1000W is the baseline for that hardware combo, but honestly with a 5090 you might want to consider going even higher to handle those nasty power spikes. Be careful with those transient loads, they can trip cheaper protection circuits even if the total wattage looks fine on paper. I have been running the EVGA SuperNOVA 1300 G+, 1300W for a bit now and it is rock solid. It stays super quiet compared to some of those units that sound like a jet engine under load. If you dont mind spending a little more for peace of mind, it is worth it. Just make sure to double check your case clearance because these high-wattage units get pretty long. Dont cheap out on the cables either, get some high-quality sleeved ones if you want to be safe with that 12VHPWR connector.
