So I finally pulled the trigger on the PS5 Pro preorder last week and now Im staring at my old SteelSeries Arctis 7Ps like theyre ancient relics or something. Ive been a PlayStation guy since the PS2 days and usually I just stick with whatever is mid-range and reliable but I really want to actually feel the immersion this time around since Im dropping so much cash on the console itself. The 7Ps have been my workhorse for like three years now but lately the audio feels a bit flat especially in games like Returnal or the newer Resident Evil remakes where the directional sound is supposed to be everything.

I know my way around the Tempest 3D settings and Ive messed with the EQ profiles on the console but honestly I think the hardware is just hitting a ceiling. I was looking at the Audeze Maxwells because everyone raves about those planar magnetic drivers but then I see people complaining about them being too heavy for long sessions and I usually pull 4-5 hour marathons on the weekends when my roommates are out. Then there is the Pulse Elite with the same driver tech and the better integration but I keep reading horror stories about the disconnect issues and that weird buzzing sound.

My budget is pretty flexible but I want to keep it under $350 if possible. Im based in the US so I can pretty much order from anywhere but I need to make a decision before the Pro actually lands on my doorstep next Thursday. I want something that makes the most of the upgraded hardware because it feels waste to have all that power and still use old cans.

Here is what I am looking for specifically:

  • incredible spatial tracking for horror and shooters
  • comfort for big heads because mine is huge lol
  • solid battery life because I always forget to plug things in
  • something that doesnt have a white noise hiss when no sound is playing

Is there anything else I should be looking at besides the Maxwells or the Elites? Maybe something from Turtle Beach or even Razer? I havent touched a Razer headset in years because they used to feel like cheap plastic but maybe they stepped it up for the Pro era? Just want to know what you guys are actually using that makes the 3D audio actually pop...

Yo, congrats on the Pro preorder! That thing is gonna be a beast and you definitely need the audio to match. Honestly, if you want that wow factor for the 3D audio in Returnal, you really should just go for the Audeze Maxwell Wireless Gaming Headset for PlayStation 90mm Planar Magnetic Drivers. I know you heard about the weight, and yeah, they are beefy, but the sound quality from those planar drivers is just on another level compared to anything else under $350. It is not even a fair fight, the detail is insane! If the weight really scares you off for those 5-hour marathons, I would look at the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+Nova+Pro+Wireless+for+PlayStation+Multi-System+Connect&linkCode=osi&t=t=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless for PlayStation Multi-System Connect. Since you are already used to the 7P fit, these will feel like home but way more premium. They fit my big dome perfectly and dont clamp too hard. The spatial tracking is fantastic for shooters, and the best part is the dual battery system. You basically never have to plug them in because you just swap the little battery pack in the ear cup. It is seriously life-changing for people who forget to charge stuff lol. Both of these are miles better than the Elites in terms of build quality and that annoying hiss. You wont regret either! Let me know if you need more details on the setup! TL;DR: Get the Audeze Maxwell Wireless Gaming Headset for PlayStation 90mm Planar Magnetic Drivers for the absolute best sound, or the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+Nova+Pro+Wireless+for+PlayStation+Multi-System+Connect&linkCode=osi&t=t=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless for PlayStation Multi-System Connect if you want peak comfort and infinite battery life!

Jumping in here because you mentioned the big head struggle and wanting that 3D audio to really pop! If you want the absolute best technical performance for that PS5 Pro, you gotta look at the Turtle Beach Stealth Pro Wireless Multiplatform Gaming Headset. It basically kills the white noise hiss issue because those 50mm Nanoclear drivers are specifically tuned for high sensitivity without the floor noise you get on mid-range sets. Here is why this set is a technical beast:

  • The dual battery system is a lifesaver. You get two swappable packs so you literally never plug the headset in. Just swap the battery in the base station.
  • Best-in-class Active Noise Cancellation. It filters out up to 25dB of background noise which makes the Tempest 3D audio feel way more isolated and immersive.
  • The spatial tracking is pinpoint accurate for stuff like Returnal where verticality matters.
  • Massive earcups and a steel-reinforced headband that doesnt crush your skull. Pro tip: Grab the mobile app and tweak the Signature Sound preset. Boosting the 4kHz range slightly makes footsteps and reload sounds cut through the mix like crazy!

Staying away from the newer planar tech was the right call for me because of those weight and bug reports. A high-end setup from a classic console brand ended up being my choice and honestly couldnt be happier.

  • fits my big head perfectly
  • no buzzing or white noise
  • incredible spatial tracking Getting a reliable connection was my main priority over flashy drivers.

>comfort for big heads because mine is huge lolsolid battery life because I always forget to plug things in Stumbled on this today and felt the big head struggle... I have tried many sets over the years and honestly, if you want reliability without the weird buzzing issues of the Elites, you should check out the Razer BlackShark V2 Pro Wireless Gaming Headset 2023 Edition. I know you said you havent touched Razer in years, but this 2023 refresh is a different beast entirely. The battery lasts forever (like 70 hours) and the clamping force is light enough for those 5 hour marathons. Quick thing I need to clarify tho: are you specifically looking for active noise cancellation or do you prefer to hear a bit of what is going on in the room? If you want total isolation, the Sony INZONE H9 Wireless Noise Cancelling Gaming Headset is probably your best bet for the Pro. Since it is Sonys own tech, the Tempest 3D feels very natural and there is zero setup involved. It is basically the wireless version of their best noise cancelling tech but tuned for gaming. No hiss on mine either, which is a huge plus for those quiet horror moments in Resident Evil.
