I just managed to snag a PS5 Pro for my apartment because I wanted to play GTA VI when it finally drops, but honestly I feel like a total idiot looking at all the random gear online. I have zero idea what I actually need versus what is just junk. My budget is pretty tight now after buying the console, but I need to make sure I dont break anything or have it overheat or whatever. Do I need a cooling stand? What about those extra controller charging docks? Sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the absolute must-have accessories for this thing so I dont regret my purchase later...

Like someone mentioned, definitely steer clear of those cheap cooling stands. Honestly, they just move warm air around the dust, which is the last thing you want inside a console. I actually fried a port on my old system using one of those random third-party hubs, so stick to the official ports or high-quality cables. Since you are looking for storage alternatives, check these out:

  • Samsung 990 Pro 2TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
  • This thing is crazy fast and stays pretty cool under heavy load. The Samsung Magician software is a lifesaver if you ever need to check the drive health on a PC.
  • HyperX Cloud III Wired Gaming Headset
  • Honestly the best bang for your buck if you need audio. It is way more durable than some of the fancier stuff I have wasted money on that broke after six months. For keeping things tidy without breaking the bank, skip those overpriced charging docks. Just grab a long Anker Powerline III USB-C to USB-C Cable 6ft and plug it into a wall adapter. It is way more reliable than those cheap docks that eventually lose connection because the internal pins get bent. If you really want to keep tabs on your gear, check out the Digital Foundry channel on YouTube; they do insane technical breakdowns so you dont have to guess if an accessory is actually worth your hard-earned cash.

Skip the cooling stands, they usually just blow dust inside. Get a Sony DualSense Charging Station instead. For storage, the Western Digital WD_BLACK SN850P 2TB NVMe SSD is the gold standard.

Just catching up on this thread. Honestly, dont stress about the cooling stands because they often do more harm than good by pushing dust into the vents. Before you spend more cash, what kind of display are you hooking this up to?

  • Prioritize a high-quality HDMI cable if you want 4K support
  • Make sure your space has proper airflow
  • Avoid cheap USB hubs that might fry your ports
