Ugh I really messed up and didnt realize how hot these i9s actually get. My 14900K is literally hitting 100c the second I start a render in Premiere and its killing my workflow. I have a deadline by Friday for this wedding video and Im panicking a bit because I cant finish anything with these speeds.
I spent all night looking at benchmarks but Im just more confused now. Everyone says the Noctua NH-D15 is the gold standard but then I see people on Reddit saying it struggles with the newer i9 TDP spikes and that the contact frame thing is mandatory. Then I saw the DeepCool AK620 is supposed to be great for half the price but is it actually gonna hold up under a 2 hour render? Im in a hot office in Arizona and the AC is barely keeping up as it is.
Here is what I need:
What is actually the best choice for these high end chips if I refuse to go liquid? Can a big air cooler even keep this thing under 90c...
The Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO 7 Heatpipes CPU Cooler technically performs better than more expensive units in current benchmarks. It fits the 4000D case perfectly. At roughly $45, its a very budget-friendly choice. Adding a Thermalright LGA1700-BCF Contact Frame is basically mandatory to fix socket bending and improve thermal contact. This setup is your best option for the 14900K while staying well under budget. It handles those spikes decently tho...
Unfortunately, these i9 chips are quite disappointing for those of us who prefer the reliability of air cooling. I had issues with several towers in my workstation and found they just werent as good as expected during heavy renders. The heat density is basically too much for standard designs to handle without being very methodical about your BIOS settings.
Honestly, I feel your pain with the heat... it is so stressful when you are on a deadline and the CPU is just cooking. Its exhausting to worry about my chip melting or failing constantly. Anyway, I am happy with these:
