What are the top recommended RAM kits for Ryzen and Core CPUs because honestly I am so overwhelmed and dont want to buy the wrong thing for my first build! I finally saved up about $1600 here in Chicago and I'm ready to pull the trigger this weekend but the more I read about memory the more my head hurts lol. Like I see people talking about DDR4 versus DDR5 and then there are these numbers like 3200mhz or 6000mhz and something called CL30 or CL16 and I just have no idea what any of it actually means for me. I just want the best performance for my money without breaking anything.
I think I am going with the Ryzen 7800X3D because everyone says its the best for gaming right now and I really want to play Cyberpunk on high settings but then I saw a video saying Intel CPUs like the i7 or i9 need different RAM speeds to work right? Or maybe they dont? Its all so confusing. I just want something that is fast and wont crash my computer while I am playing. I saw some G.Skill ones that look cool and have the rainbow lights which I definitely want because it makes the setup look faster haha but is there a specific brand that is better for Ryzen than for Intel Core?
My budget for the RAM specifically is maybe $120 to $150 if that helps. I just dont want to spend a fortune but I also dont want to buy the cheapest stuff if it means my games will lag. Also do I need 16gb or 32gb?? Some people say 16 is fine but then others say you need 32 for the newer games coming out next year like GTA 6 eventually. Sorry if these are really basic questions I am just really excited to finally stop playing on my old laggy laptop and get a real desktop going. If anyone could just tell me exactly which box to buy from Amazon or Microcenter that would be amazing because I am staring at like fifty different options and they all look the same to me...
I was really worried about picking the wrong thing but I'm so happy with my choice. Definitely check Microcenter in Chicago for this kit.
I've been looking at similar builds lately because I'm also pretty nervous about stability. Since you're near a Microcenter, you should definitely check if you're getting one of their bundles. They usually pair the 7800X3D with specific kits that are basically guaranteed to work together which is a lot safer for a first timer. If you're buying separate and want to save a few bucks, TeamGroup T-Force Delta RGB 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 is a solid alternative. It's usually cheaper than the big names but still has the RGB and it's quite reliable. AMD says 6000mhz is the sweet spot for these chips so going faster is just extra risk for no gain imo... Quick question tho, what motherboard are you planning to use? I'm asking because some kits are kinda tall and might hit your CPU cooler if you're using a big air tower.
Nice, didn't know that
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
