RAM for Ryzen 7 7700X?

Looking to optimize my new Ryzen 7 7700X build. Currently considering 32GB DDR5, but confused about speed/timings. Is 6000MHz CL30 the sweet spot, or should I push for 6400MHz? Does the Infinity Fabric on these chips still benefit from tighter timings over raw speed?

Budget is around $150-180. Also concerned about XMP stability - heard some 7000 series users having trouble. Any specific kits that work reliably with this CPU? Corsair Vengeance or G.Skill Trident Z?

Appreciate any insights!

Everyone in this thread is totally right about 6000MHz CL30 being the gold standard for these chips. I spent way too much time when I first got my current setup trying to force it to run at 6400 because I wanted to see those benchmark scores climb. Tbh, it was a massive headache. Even though I could technically boot and run some tests, I kept getting these weird micro-stutters in-game that drove me crazy. I ended up doing a bunch of side-by-side testing and realized that the 1:1 ratio for the memory controller and the fabric clock is REALLY where the magic happens. When I dropped back down to 6000, I was able to get much tighter sub-timings which actually improved my minimum frame rates more than the raw speed of 6400 ever did. Basically, unless you wanna spend weeks fighting with your BIOS for a margin of error gain, just stick with what everyone else suggested. It is just way more stable and the real-world performance difference is almost impossible to notice outside of a synthetic benchmark.

Can confirm this works. Did the same thing on mine and its been solid ever since.

Agree with everyone saying 6000MHz CL30 is the way to go. Its definitely the most stable route for the 7700X without wasting money on stuff you wont notice. Just a few things to watch out for tho before you buy:

  • Look for EXPO certified kits instead of just XMP. It makes setting it up in the BIOS way less of a headache for AMD chips.
  • Stick to a 2-stick kit. Running four sticks of DDR5 is still super hit or miss on AM5 and usually forces you to drop the speed way down.
  • Check your CPU cooler height. Some of these high-performance modules have massive heat spreaders that might block your fan. Basically dont overcomplicate it. Better to have a system that actually boots every time than one that crashes once a week for a tiny performance gain.

For Ryzen 7 7700X, 6000MHz CL30 is indeed the sweet spot. G.Skill Trident Z5 Neo RGB DDR5-6000 offers great performance and stability.
