I just got the new iPhone for my hiking trip this weekend and I am honestly terrified of breaking it because I drop my phone literally every day. I have never actually bought a screen protector before because my last phone already had one.

I went to the store and there were like fifty different kinds and some were glass and some were plastic and I have no clue what the difference is or if the expensive ones are actually better. I need to get something today so I can put it on before we leave. Sorry if this is a dumb question but I am super stressed about it. What is the most durable screen protector for an iPhone that wont break immediately?

Just saw this. Honestly, my last store-bought protector was not as good as expected and shattered. Which iPhone model is it? I use ZAGG InvisibleShield Glass XTR3 for its superior impact technology.

Which iPhone model is it? In my experience:

  • Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit 9H Tempered Glass is simple to swap.
  • Belkin UltraGlass 2 Lithium Aluminosilicate is way sturdier. Both are reliable.

Been thinking about your question since I saw it earlier and honestly, you have to prioritize material science here! I totally agree with the others that standard glass is weak, but if you want real armor for a hiking trip, you need to look at specific compositions. Here are two fantastic options that outperform generic store brands:

  • OtterBox Trusted Glass
  • This is amazing for DIY installers because it comes with a precision alignment tray. It is incredibly scratch-resistant and honestly feels just like the naked screen!
  • ESR Armorite Screen Protector
  • This one is honestly top-tier. It is tested for impact resistance up to 110 lbs of force! The oleophobic coating is also fantastic because it stays fingerprint-free even when you are sweating on the trail. Installing these yourself is a breeze! Just make sure your workspace is dust-free and use a sticker to pull any stray particles off the display before dropping the glass on. You will be totally fine on your trip with either of these!

Honestly, I have had issues with most protectors I found in stores. Many were not as good as expected and shattered on my first mountain trek. Unfortunately, my experience showed that high price doesnt always guarantee actual durability.

  • Plastic films fail on impact protection
  • Basic tempered glass chips far too easily at the edges The one I got recently actually survived a drop, but those store-bought ones were a total waste of money.
