Look I am literally at my breaking point with these flimsy white cables from Apple they just keep fraying right at the neck and now I can see the actual wires which is probably a fire hazard lol. I leave for a big work trip to Chicago this Friday morning so I need to buy something that will actually last me more than two months because I cannot deal with my phone dying mid-flight. My cat also thinks every cord is a snack so that's another thing I have to deal with. I've been looking at the Anker 765 nylon one since everyone raves about Anker but then I saw the Nomad Kevlar cables and they look like they could survive a tank but they're like way more expensive. Is the Nomad actually worth the extra money or am I just paying for the brand name?

My constraints are:

  • must be 6 feet minimum because my hotel outlets are always miles from the bed
  • budget is $30 max really dont want to spend $50 on a wire
  • needs to be available for fast shipping or at a local Best Buy by tomorrow
  • has to be super reinforced at the ends where it usually bends

Im leaning towards the Anker just because of the price but if the Nomad is genuinely indestructible I'll bite the bullet. What do you guys think for someone who is rough on their gear and has a demon cat...

Grab the Anker 765 USB-C to Lightning Cable 140W Nylon 6ft! It is amazing and way cheaper than Nomad.

  • super tough
  • great price The Belkin BoostCharge Pro Flex 6.6ft is fantastic too!

Late to the party but I feel your pain so much. My cat, Luna, is basically a professional cable assassin and I have gone through so many supposedly heavy duty wires that just ended up in the trash after a week. Honestly, it is super disappointing when you spend good money and the braiding starts unraveling or the connector just snaps anyway. I tried sticking with the basic Apple ones for a bit but they are a total joke for travel, especially when hotel outlets are always located in the most inconvenient spots possible. I actually had a really bad experience with some generic nylon ones recently where the internal wiring just frayed even though the outside looked fine. It was so frustrating when my phone stopped charging mid-trip. If you are heading to Best Buy before your flight, you should definitely look for the Mophie USB-C Cable with Lightning Connector 2m Braided. I have been using one for about six months and it has actually survived the cat test and being crammed into my backpack everyday. The strain relief at the ends is much beefier than the stock cables. Another sleeper pick if you want to save some cash for your trip is the Insignia 10ft Lightning to USB-C Braided Cable. Since it is their house brand, it is usually way under 30 bucks. The cord is surprisingly thick and stiff, which usually annoys people, but for a cat owner it is a blessing because they cant really get their teeth around it easily. Dont bother with the 50 dollar Nomad stuff unless you just really love the look, because these others are just as rugged for way less cash.

Dozens of cables have passed through my hands, and the OtterBox Premium Fast Charge Lightning to USB-C Cable 6.6ft is a total tank. The strain relief is actually massive compared to standard ones, so it wont fray easily at the neck. Honestly, the Nomad is overkill; youre mostly paying for the leather strap and brand name. TL;DR: OtterBox hits that $25-30 price point perfectly and is usually in stock locally. Safe travels!
