I just got the new iPhone 15 after having my old one for like 5 years so I'm totally lost with all this new tech. My friend told me about MagSafe and said it makes charging easier but honestly I have no idea how it works. Is it just a magnet or do I need to buy a special plug for the wall too? I'm looking to spend maybe 40 or 50 bucks tops for something to put on my nightstand so I don't have to fumble with cables in the dark anymore.
Sorry if this is a super basic question but there are so many options on Amazon and it's kinda overwhelming. What are the best MagSafe chargers for the current iPhones right now that won't break the bank?
Honestly, I went through the same headache last year when I upgraded. I was so tired of my phone sliding off the nightstand at 2 AM. I finally grabbed the ESR MagSafe Charger with Kickstand 5ft Cable and I have been really satisfied with how sturdy the magnets are. It just snaps right on and I dont even have to look at it anymore. It works well and it definitely didnt break the bank. Quick question tho, are you using a case on that iPhone 15? If you have a regular thick case that isnt MagSafe compatible, the magnets wont grip through the plastic and the charger will just slide right off. You definitely wanna double check that before buying anything. Quick tip: make sure you use a 20W wall plug or higher. If you use an old tiny one, itll take all night just to hit 50 percent.
Honestly, its kinda annoying how complicated they make this now. I wasted money on the official Apple puck and it was not as good as expected tbh. The cable is way too short and stiff for a nightstand setup. Unfortunately, most of these chargers dont even come with the wall plug anymore, which is just greedy. You definitely need to buy a 20W USB-C brick separately or it wont even work right. If you want to stay under 50 bucks, I would go with these instead:
@Reply #3 - good point! Just go with any charger from Belkin. theyre super reliable and you wont have to worry about frying your battery or safety issues with your new phone.
Adding my two cents here, but please be careful before buying anything. There are so many cheap knockoffs online that can actually damage your battery health over time if they dont have the proper safety certifications. I always suggest sticking to well-known brands that specifically mention MFi or certified power delivery protocols. TL;DR: Before you pick anything, do you need your phone to be usable while it charges, or is this strictly for overnight use? Also, are you planning to use a heavy protective case, or just the bare phone? Those magnets have to be really strong to work through a thick case, so knowing that will definitely change which ones I would suggest for you.
Commenting to find later
I would suggest checking some teardowns on sites like MacRumors before you commit to anything. You gotta be careful because some cheap magnets are weak and the phone might just slide off in the middle of the night if you arent careful. Quick question though, are you planning on using a case? Also, do you want a stand that props the phone up for StandBy mode, or just a flat pad?
