Hey everyone! I finally managed to snag both a PS5 and an Xbox Series X recently, and I'm looking to upgrade my setup. Right now, I'm playing on an old 1080p office monitor, and it honestly feels like I'm missing out on half the experience. I really want to jump into 4K gaming and make the most of what these consoles can actually do.

I've been doing some research, but it's honestly getting a bit overwhelming with all the technical specs out there. I know I definitely need something with HDMI 2.1 ports so I can hit that 120Hz refresh rate. I'm also looking for features like:

  • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) to keep things smooth
  • Decent HDR performance because I love those vibrant colors
  • A screen size around 27 to 32 inches since it's for a desk setup

I've seen people mention the Gigabyte M32U and the LG 27GP95R, but I’m worried about backlight bleed or poor contrast in dark games like Elden Ring. Since this is a pretty big investment for me, I want to make sure I get something that will last a few years and won't give me compatibility issues between the two systems.

Does anyone have personal experience with a specific model that works perfectly for both consoles? What do you think is currently the best 4K gaming monitor for the PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Yo, congrats on getting both consoles! Honestly, if you're worried about contrast in games like Elden Ring, you should definitely look at Mini-LED. Standard IPS panels like the ones you mentioned are super sharp, but the blacks can look a bit grey in a dark room which kinda sucks for atmospheric games. I've been using the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 32-inch 4K 165Hz Mini-LED and it is basically perfect for console gaming. Since it has local dimming, the contrast is way better than the Gigabyte M32U 32-inch 4K 144Hz. It handles HDR like a champ and has the HDMI 2.1 ports for 120Hz on both systems. If you really want that 27-inch size, the LG 27GP95R-B 27-inch UltraGear 4K 144Hz is solid, but for the best experience, the Neo G7 wins imo. Good luck with the setup!

I did a deep dive into the technical sheets before picking mine. The LG 27GP95R-B 27 4K Nano IPS has incredible response times, but the contrast ratio basically makes blacks look gray. I ended up with the Sony INZONE M9 27 4K 144Hz because of the 96 local dimming zones. It handles PS5 auto-HDR perfectly, tho the stand is a bit chunky. Both handle 4K 120Hz via HDMI 2.1 perfectly.

Honestly went through this exact same headache last year trying to find something that wouldnt let me down. I ended up trying a few before settling and honestly, its been a smooth ride since. Here is how I saw it:

  • Dell Alienware AW3225QF 32-inch 4K QD-OLED: This is my daily driver now and I am beyond satisfied. The colors are just... wow. If you want that deep contrast for Elden Ring, OLED is king. It handles both consoles perfectly and the 3-year burn-in warranty gives me peace of mind.
  • Gigabyte M28U 28-inch 4K 144Hz: I had this one for a few months before giving it to my brother. It works really well for the price point. You dont get the perfect blacks of the OLED, but it is super snappy and has been really reliable for a mid-range pick.
  • LG 32GR93U-B 32-inch UltraGear 4K: A solid alternative if you prefer the larger 32-inch size without the curved screen. Its got great build quality and I never had any issues with HDMI 2.1 features on PS5. Ngl, I’m really happy I made the jump to 4K. It really makes those console exclusives pop. If you have more questions about the setup, just lmk!

Jumping in because honestly it drives me crazy that we pay a premium for such hit or miss quality control lately, it feels like a scam. Whats your actual hard budget?

Tbh I've seen so many people drop a grand on a monitor only for it to develop dead pixels or weird flickering in six months. Over the years, I've learned that price doesn't always guarantee reliability, and sometimes those 'flagship' models are the most finicky. Before I give you a final pick tho, how much room do you actually have on your desk? 32 inches is a lot of screen if you're sitting closer than three feet, and you'll definitely notice panel glow more on a bigger display. If you're looking to keep some money in your pocket for actual games, I've found the Gigabyte M28U 28 4K 144Hz to be one of the most stable choices lately. It handles the PS5 and Xbox features perfectly without the huge price tag of the LG. Another solid bet is the ASUS TUF Gaming VG28UQL1A 28 4K 144Hz... I've tried many over the years and the TUF series usually holds up better than the flashy stuff. Ngl, it wont give you perfect OLED blacks for Elden Ring, but for a daily driver that wont break on you, they're hard to beat for the price.
