Im starting my masters program in like three weeks and honestly the thought of carrying around two different pens for my devices is already stressing me out lol. I use an older iPad Pro for my personal reading but my job gave me a Surface Pro for my research assistant work and I really want a single stylus that can hop between them without me losing my mind. I've been looking at a few options and I'm kind of stuck.
I have been looking at these three specifically:
- Adonit Dash 4
- Wacom Bamboo Ink
- One of those random $25 universal ones from Amazon
The Adonit Dash 4 seems like the frontrunner since it claims to work on basically everything with just a click but I've read some reviews saying the lines can be a bit wobbly when you're writing fast. Then there's those generic active styluses on Amazon... part of me thinks they're just junk but some people swear by them for basic note taking. I've also looked at the Bamboo Ink but I'm not totally sure if it handles the switching well between different screen techs like the iPad and the Surface.
My budget is strictly under 75 dollars because tuition is eating my soul and I need something reliable that wont lag during a fast lecture. I'm leaning toward the Adonit but is it actually worth the extra cash over the cheapo ones? Does anyone have experience using one pen for both an iPad and a Windows tablet?

I actually tried doing the same thing last year when I was juggling a Surface for work and my old iPad for sketches. Buying one of those cheap $20 pens from Amazon was a mistake, honestly. Be careful with those because mine would randomly disconnect right in the middle of a meeting and I worried about it scratching the screen since the tip felt so cheap. It was a total headache and notes got lost because the line would just... stop. If you're going for reliability, the Adonit Dash 4 Dual Mode Stylus is probably the only safe choice under $75, but you might want to consider these points:
- Switch the mode to the blue light when moving to the Surface.
- Be cautious with how much pressure you apply since there is no pressure sensitivity.
- Keep a backup charger handy for long lectures. I would suggest avoiding the Wacom because it is mostly built for Windows-specific tech. Just watch out for that wobbly line thing if you're a fast writer tho... it takes some getting used to.
