my laptop screen literally just died today and i have a flight to London on Thursday where i need to finish a huge report so im panicking a bit. i gotta use my ipad but i hate typing on glass for hours.

i looked at the logitech keys-to-go because its small but the reviews say the keys feel like mush and i type fast so thats a no go. then theres the apple magic keyboard thing but its way too expensive for my $100 budget. is there something that actually feels like a real keyboard but folds up small? and i need a stand too because the case i have keeps flopping over on my lap...

Wait, what iPad model do you actually have? The 12.9 inch needs a way beefier stand than the mini. In my experience, skip the folding ones if you want to type fast. The hinges make the layout weird and i always hit the wrong keys...

  • Logitech K380 Multi-Device Bluetooth Keyboard
  • UGREEN Tablet Stand Multi-Angle Aluminum Both together are way under your budget.

Be careful with split hinges. I swear by the ProtoArc XK01 Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard for fast typing. Pair it with a Moft Snap Tablet Stand so it wont flop like mine once did.

I wasted money on a few folding keyboards that were total trash before finding something usable. Honestly, most feel like toys. I had issues with keys falling off the cheap ones, but the iClever BK06 Foldable Bluetooth Keyboard actually feels okay for fast typing. Pair that with a Lamicall Tablet Stand Adjustable and you'll be set for the flight. It wont flop over like those flimsy cases do.

Huh interesting. I had no idea. The more you know I guess 🤷

They are a major reliability weak point because the copper traces flex every time you open the hinge. Also, if you type fast, make sure to check the key travel distance specs. Anything under 1.2mm is basically like typing on a table and it will totally kill your WPM during a long report.

Just found this thread while looking for some specs. Honestly, if you are doing a massive report, you need real key travel, not those thin membrane layers that feel like tapping on a sponge. I have been really satisfied with my current setup because the tactile feedback is actually measurable and snappy.

  • Microsoft Designer Compact Keyboard
  • This has 1.3mm of travel which is the sweet spot for fast typing without the bulk.
  • Nulaxy A4 Tablet Stand Holder
  • Its basically a solid chunk of aluminum and it wont budge on a plane tray table. I actually ended up sticking some extra 3M Self-Adhesive Rubber Feet on the bottom of the stand for more grip during turbulence. It works well and the whole kit fits in a backpack sleeve easily. Tbh, paying $300 for an Apple case is robbery when you can get better mechanical feel for under a hundred bucks... good luck with the report!
