I literally blew my entire savings on this new PC because my friend told me the RTX 4080 was the way to go and now I am sitting here staring at a screen that looks like trash because I am using my old 1080p office monitor from like 2018. I feel so stupid because I didnt realize monitors were so expensive and complicated and I have no idea where to start. There are so many numbers like 144hz and 4k and ips and I have no idea what any of it means or why it matters but everything looks blurry when I move the mouse too fast and it is making me super frustrated. I just want it to look pretty like the videos on youtube but I only have a tiny bit of money left. I am in the US and luckily have a Micro Center about 45 mins away so I can go there this weekend if they have something good in stock.

My requirements are:

  • Budget is around $350 or $400 max since I am totally broke now
  • Needs to be fast enough for shooting games but look good for stuff like Cyberpunk
  • Definitely bigger than 24 inches because this one is way too small
  • Must actually work with that 4080 thing without me having to be a tech genius

Sorry if this is a really basic question but I am totally lost and dont want to waste more money on the wrong thing. What should I even be looking for...

Using an RTX 4080 at 1080p is basically a waste of power. You really need 1440p resolution to fix that blur. Since you're near a Micro Center, be careful with cheap displays and look for these specifically:

  • LG 27GP850-B 27 inch Ultragear QHD Nano IPS
  • Gigabyte M27Q 27 inch 170Hz IPS I would suggest checking the panel for dead pixels before you leave.

Just saw this thread. You should be careful with ultra-budget 4K options because they often have poor response times. I would suggest focusing on a high-quality 1440p display instead. You might want to consider the ASUS TUF Gaming 27 inch 1440p HDR Monitor VG27AQ or the Dell 27 inch Gaming Monitor G2724D. Make sure to check for G-Sync compatibility so your 4080 doesnt cause any screen tearing issues.

Reading this reminded me of my first real build years ago. I was so proud of getting this high-end GPU, spent every dime I had on it, and then I hooked it up to an old TV I found in my basement. It was such a disaster lol. I remember sitting there trying to play some racing game and the input lag was so bad that I would turn the wheel and the car wouldnt move for like a full second. It is funny how we obsess over the internal specs and then completely forget about the actual output. I actually went to that same Micro Center you mentioned a while back with a cousin who was in the same boat. We spent ages just staring at the demo screens they have set up near the entrance. Honestly, we got so distracted by the high-end OLED displays they had on the endcaps that we completely forgot why we even went there. We spent like an hour just watching the demo loops of nature footage because it looked so crisp... we ended up leaving with nothing but a giant tub of those cheese balls from the snack aisle because we were so overwhelmed by all the choices. Its definitely a process getting everything balanced. I have been through so many setups where one part was way faster than the rest of the system. It always works out in the end tho and honestly those trips to the store are half the fun of the hobby. Just wandering around and seeing all the tech in person really puts things in perspective... even if you dont always walk out with what you planned on getting. I am super happy with how my current desk looks now but getting there took way longer than I expected.
