Has there been any news about the Radeon RX 9080 XT? Will AMD actually release it, or is it just speculation?  Thanks!

Saw this thread earlier, figured I would chime in. Forget the 9080 XT, it is a ghost. In my experience, chasing unreleased cards is a trap anyway. If you want something that actually lasts five years without dying, you need to focus on safety and reliability specs:

  • Metal shrouds and thick backplates to prevent PCB sag over the years.
  • Overbuilt VRMs so the power delivery stays stable under load.
  • Dual BIOS switches just in case a firmware update goes sideways. Honestly, this reminds me of back in 2019 when I cheaped out on a flimsy blower card. My home office got so hot during a summer heatwave that the solder joints literally degraded and the card just died mid-game. I ended up having to bake the PCB in my kitchen oven just to revive it long enough to get my data off. Ever since that disaster, I only buy heavily armored cards like the ASUS TUF Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB. Anyway, probably went a bit off topic there, but yeah, buy for build quality.

tbh I kinda disagree with the idea that we should just settle for the mid-range stuff right now especially if youre looking at this from a long-term ownership perspective because I’ve been holding onto my cards for like 4 or 5 years at a time and jumping on the first available model can be a HUGE mistake if you want it to actually last. Idk if they'll call it the 9080 XT or change the naming scheme completely but there’s almost always a late-cycle flagship and if you rush into a lower-tier card now you might find yourself hitting VRAM limits or performance bottlenecks in like two years so basically my warning is to just hold off and see what happens with the actual high-end enthusiast chips because buying twice is way more expensive than just waiting a few months for the real heavy hitter anyway even if the rumors are a bit confusing right now.

ngl rmsqtuwigp is spot on about the long-term play. If youre planning to keep a card for 5 years, settling for a mid-range card with lower VRAM is gonna feel bad by 2028. Since the 9080 XT is basically a ghost right now, honestly, youre better off grabbing the current flagship if you need that high memory ceiling today. Here is what I would look for to ensure longevity:

  • At least 20GB of VRAM for future-proofing textures
  • High memory bandwidth (320-bit or higher)
  • Robust power delivery for sustained clocks The ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB is usually priced well right now and has the raw specs to last. If you want the absolute best cooling and VRM, the Sapphire Nitro+ Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB is the way to go. If AMD really is skipping the halo tier this round to focus on mid-market before UDNA, then grabbing the current top-tier silicon is basically your only move for a 5-year horizon. Dont get stuck with a 12GB card thatll be obsolete in two years... I've seen it happen way too often.

Look, the 9080 XT isnt happening. Everything in the supply chain points to AMD skipping the halo product this round to fix their driver overhead and ray tracing performance on the mid-tier stuff first. In my experience, waiting for a ghost card is a waste of time when you could be gaming today. If you want performance that actually lasts, forget the model name and look at:

  • raw power delivery specs
  • thickest heatsink you can fit in your case
  • high factory clock speeds Honestly, just go with any premium card from ASUS or PowerColor. You really cant go wrong with those brands when it comes to pushing the silicon to its limits. They usually overbuild the PCBs anyway so you get way more stability under load tho.

No, just enjoy the RX 9070 XT. There will be no higher end model. AMD is working on UDNA for early next year releases of high-end model.
