I've recently made the jump to the Xbox Series X, and while the visuals are absolutely stunning, I feel like my current audio setup is really holding me back. I’m mostly playing competitive shooters like Halo Infinite and Call of Duty: Warzone, where being able to pinpoint footsteps or distant gunfire is a total game-changer. Right now, I’m using an older budget pair, and the sound just feels 'flat.' I often find myself spinning around because I can’t tell if an enemy is above me or just behind a wall.
I've been looking into spatial audio options like Dolby Atmos for Headphones and DTS Headphone:X, but I'm honestly overwhelmed by the choices. I’ve seen a lot of praise for the SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro and the official Xbox Wireless Headset, but I want to know which one actually delivers that '3D' feeling most effectively. Comfort is also a big deal for me since I usually pull 3-4 hour sessions on the weekends, so I need something that doesn't pinch. My budget is roughly $200, though I’m willing to stretch it slightly for something that truly transforms the immersion.
Does anyone have experience with these or maybe a hidden gem I should consider? Which headset do you think offers the most precise directional imaging and immersive spatial audio for the Series X?
yo, the Xbox Wireless Headset is basically the best $99 budget win. its 40mm drivers handle spatial audio perfectly and its super comfy. idk maybe pricey ones are better but im satisfied! gl
Unfortunately, the Pro was disappointing for me. I suggest the <a href=" https://www.amazon.com/s?k= SteelSeries+Arctis+Nova+7X+Wireless&linkCode=osi&t=t=5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">SteelSeries Arctis Nova 7X Wireless instead... the spatial imaging is actually more consistent and it’s way more reliable, right?
Bookmarked, thanks!
Just sharing my experience: I totally get where your coming from with the 'flat' sound thing. I went through this exact same struggle last year when I first got my Series X and was getting absolutely trashed in Halo because I couldnt tell where anything was coming from. It’s literally the worst feeling when you think someones behind you but they're actually above... anyway, I spent weeks testing different setups and honestly? I realized I was overthinking the hardware side of things way too much. I tried a few different ones from brands like HyperX and Razer, and what I found was that you dont necessarily need to drop $300 to get that 3D immersion. Like, I eventually figured out that just getting a decent mid-range set from a reliable brand and then actually paying the few bucks for the Dolby Atmos app license made a HUGE difference. It kind of bridged the gap for me without having to blow my whole budget. Plus, comfort is so subjective... I found that the lighter brands usually felt way better after hour three than the heavy 'premium' stuff. You might want to consider looking at anything from HyperX for that long-session comfort ur after. Just be careful with those super expensive 'pro' models because sometimes you're just paying for extra bells and whistles you wont even use. I still get confused sometimes in the heat of a match, but it’s sooo much better than it used to be. Have you looked into the software side of things yet or just the hardware?
late to the party here but quick question before you drop the cash... are you actually planning to pay for the Dolby Atmos license or just sticking with Windows Sonic? It really changes which hardware is worth it tbh. If you want that 3D feel without breaking the bank, I would look at the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX. Compared to the SteelSeries stuff, I think the imaging for footsteps is way more aggressive, especially with their superhuman hearing setting. Its usually around $180 so it fits your budget perfectly. Another solid choice is the Razer Kaira Pro for Xbox. Its super lightweight for those 4 hour sessions and the mic is actually decent. I found the directional audio a bit sharper than the official Xbox headset which can get a bit bass-heavy and muddy sometimes. Both are great for shooters tho!
