Just got my PS5 Pro preorder locked in for my media room. I read the WD Black SN850X is the go-to, but then saw people debating if the Pro needs faster heatsinks or different specs than the base console. I have a $150 budget before it arrives next month, so what SSDs are actually best for the Pro?

I got the Crucial T500 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD with Heatsink for mine and honestly, it works so well. You dont need to overspend on the WD one. Fits the budget easily, load times are insanely fast, and I have zero complaints. Save your extra cash for a new game instead.

Make sure you dont overpay for the brand name. The PS5 Pro uses the exact same M.2 slot dimensions as the base console, so any standard Gen4 drive with at least 5500 MBs read speeds will work perfectly. If you want to stretch that 150 budget, I would suggest getting the Lexar Professional NM790 2TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 SSD and pairing it with a cheap aftermarket cover like the Sabrent M.2 NVMe PS5 Heatsink. It runs incredibly cool and easily hits the speed requirements without the premium price tag. Just be careful with the total height of whatever heatsink you buy. It has to be under 11.25mm to fit under the expansion slot cover properly. If it is too tall, you wont be able to close the bay, which ruins the airflow.

Regarding what #2 said about not overpaying for brands, unfortunately, cheap drives often thermal throttle.

  • Get Nextorage NEM-PA 2TB PCIe Gen4

Its heatsink is vastly superior.
