Just got the new Ryzen 7 5800XT, which motherboard do you recommend for this CPU?

In my experience building on AM4 for years now, you really dont need to drop X570 money for a 5800XT. B550 is the sweet spot. Here are a few I keep coming back to when I want to save some cash but still get decent performance:

  • MSI B550-A Pro: This is basically the gold standard for budget builders. It is a bit ugly tbh, no fancy lights or anything, but the VRMs are solid enough to handle the 5800XT without breaking a sweat.
  • Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2: I like this one for the built-in WiFi and slightly better audio chip. The heat sinks are actually beefy compared to other boards at this price point.
  • ASUS TUF Gaming B550-Plus WiFi II: I have tried many ASUS boards and the TUF series is usually the most reliable. The BIOS is super easy to navigate compared to Gigabyte if you are gonna be tweaking settings. Ngl, unless you need tons of Gen4 NVMe slots, stick with the MSI and put the savings into your GPU or a better cooler.

@Reply #3 - good point! B550 is definitely the way to go for the 5800XT since it usually stays cooler than the older X570 boards. I have been really happy with how stable these systems are when you dont overcomplicate things. Before you pull the trigger tho, I gotta ask a couple things to make sure you get the right fit:

  • What size case are you building in? Like is it a huge tower or something smaller?
  • Do you actually need built-in wifi or are you gonna be on ethernet? Knowing that helps narrow it down so you dont end up with something that doesnt fit. Honestly, if you want something that just works without any drama, just go with ASRock. I have used several of their boards lately and they are super reliable. Basically any of their B550 options will keep that CPU running safe and sound for a long time. Let me know about the case and I can help more!

Get the ROG Strix B550-F Gaming WiFi II from ASUS. https://www.amazon.com/ROG-B550-F-II-Motherboard-Addressable/dp/B09GP7P1XS?t=t=7649-20&th=1

Any B550 motherboards are OK.
