What thermal paste should I actually be getting for my new 7950X build? Im finally upgrading from my old intel rig and I managed to snag a 7950X for a decent price here in London but man these chips run hot from what I see online. Im using a 360mm AIO but I want the best possible contact. I spent most of my budget on the parts so I dont mind spending an extra 10 or 15 quid on the best paste if it saves me 2-3 degrees.
Ive been looking at Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut because everyone swears by it but then I saw some forum posts saying it "pumps out" or degrades fast if the CPU stays above 80c for a long time. These high end AMD chips are designed to hit 95c right? So that kinda worries me. I also looked at Arctic MX-6 which seems safer but maybe it doesnt have the same peak performance? Im planning to put this together this weekend and I just want something that wont require me to repaste in six months because I do a lot of 4k rendering and the PC is gonna be under heavy load basically 24/7. Is the Kryonaut really that risky for these Ryzen 7000 series or should I just go with something thicker like the Noctua stuff?...
I've been very satisfied with Noctua NT-H2 3.5g Thermal Paste because it resists pump-out during long renders. Alternatively, Arctic MX-6 4g Thermal Compound offers great longevity and value without performance loss.
^ This. Also, Thermalright TF8 2g Thermal Paste is fantastic! It's way thicker than Kryonaut so it wont leak out when that 7950X hits 95c. Seriously amazing stuff for heavy rendering!
To add to the point above: honestly dont overthink the brand name too much. ive tried many over the years and for a 7950X running 24/7 under heavy 4k renders, you really just need something that doesnt separate under constant heat. i usually stick with Gelid Solutions GC-Extreme 3.5g Thermal Compound because its super thick and reliable. it wont dry out or pump out fast even if that chip is pushing 95c all day long. another quick tip... just do a thin spread manually to ensure full coverage on those big ryzen heatspreaders. if you want the absolute best for longevity, Kingpin Cooling KPx High Performance Thermal Grease 1g is what most of the extreme guys use and it holds up great. spending the extra tenner now saves you the headache of tearing the rig apart in six months. definitely worth the peace of mind imo.
