Like someone mentioned, those X3D chips are total beasts, but I'm gonna go against the grain a bit here. In my experience, chasing the absolute top-tier CPU for 4K gaming is usually a waste of money because you're almost always GPU bound anyway. I've built dozens of high-end rigs over the years and found that sticking with a reliable, cooler-running chip is often the smarter move for long-term stability... and it saves you a chunk of change. If you're looking to save some cash while keeping things rock solid, consider these:
- AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core 16-Thread
- Intel Core i7-13700K 16-Core Basically, these will handle the 5080 just fine at 4K without the premium price tag or the thermal headaches of the newest flagships. Ngl, its easy to get swept up in the AMD hype train lately but I have been really satisfied with my Intel build. If you check out the CPU scaling charts on sites like TechPowerUp or Hardware Unboxed, you will see that at 4K the gap between mid-range and top-tier chips basically vanishes. My standard i5 series chip works well and honestly no complaints at all, everything is smooth as butter with the 5080. One thing to be careful about tho is the motherboard trap. A lot of people pair these cards with 500 dollar enthusiast boards thinking they need it for performance. Total waste. Spend that money on a better monitor or more storage instead. Also, watch out for the power draw on flagship i9 chips... they can get crazy hot and might require a much beefier PSU than you think. Use a tool like PCPartPicker to check compatibility and dont overspend on the shiny stuff that doesnt actually make the games run faster.
