I just got my first new iPhone ever and I am honestly terrified of scratching it already because this thing was so expensive and I dont want to ruin it in the first week. I went to the Apple store and they tried to sell me this piece of glass for forty dollars which seems like a total scam to be honest. My budget is really tight right now after buying the actual phone so I am looking for something way cheaper, maybe under fifteen dollars if that is even possible. I keep seeing all these terms like tempered glass and liquid screen protectors and those privacy ones that make the screen dark but I am just so confused on what is actually good and what is just marketing junk. I live in a pretty small town so I have to order everything online and I really need to get one by next Friday before I go on a hiking trip with my friends. Are the cheap ones on Amazon actually any good or am I just gonna waste my money and end up with a broken screen if I drop it? I have no idea where to start or if brand names even matter for stuff like this...
Saw this thread this morning and wanted to weigh in because I used to nerd out on the Mohs scale testing for these things. Tbh, most premium glass is just 0.33mm aluminosilicate glass with a fancy coating. You definitely dont need to spend 40 bucks. I have been super satisfied with the cheaper multi-packs for years because if one cracks, you just swap it out. I have had zero complaints with the clarity on the amFilm OneTouch Tempered Glass Screen Protector 2-Pack lately. A few specs to look for:
^ This. Also, you gotta check out the value packs! I am obsessed with the technical specs on these cheap ones lately. Tempered glass is way better for impact protection than liquid junk tbh.
> I went to the Apple store and they tried to sell me this piece of glass for forty dollars which seems like a total scam to be honest. You are totally right to skip that forty dollar price tag. I have been an iPhone user for over a decade and I am always satisfied with the cheaper options from online retailers. The expensive ones are rarely worth the markup. I highly recommend the Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector 2-Pack. It usually costs about fifteen dollars. It comes with a plastic alignment tray so you dont have to worry about lining it up perfectly by hand. It works well and I have no complaints about the clarity. Basically, stick to tempered glass and avoid liquid protectors. Liquid ones are mostly marketing junk and wont protect against drops. Tempered glass is a sacrificial layer. If you drop the phone, the protector breaks instead of your screen. It is the best budget-focused approach to keep your phone safe.
Saved for later, ty!
