My bio notes are a total disaster cuz I'm using my finger and it's driving me crazy. Apple Pencils are like $100 which is insane for my student budget. I saw cheap ones on Amazon but reviews say they lack palm rejection and I'm worried it'll be a waste. What actually works for quick writing?

Re: 'Honestly, taking bio notes with your finger sounds...' - technically speaking, you need a pen using active capacitive technology. Passive styluses are basically useless for detailed notes. If you want precision, look at the Adonit Note Active Stylus with Palm Rejection. It features a 1mm tip which is ideal for bio diagrams. No Bluetooth pairing is required. It essentially emits a signal that forces the iPad to prioritize the tip over your palm. Another reliable alternative is the Jamjake K10 Stylus Pen for iPad. It is very affordable. Usually around $25. The latency is measured at roughly 20ms, so you wont notice lag during fast lectures. These typically charge via USB-C and offer 10 hours of continuous use. Just confirm your iPad is 2018 or newer. Older digitizers dont support the specific frequency required for palm rejection.

Regarding what #2 said, unfortunately I found Kingone Stylus Pen for iPad laggy. TL;DR: grab Baseus Smooth Writing 2 Series Stylus, its more responsive and wont jitter. Let me know if you need help!

Honestly, taking bio notes with your finger sounds like a total nightmare. I went through a phase of trying every budget stylus out there and I am so happy to report that you dont actually need the Apple Pencil to get a good experience. The key is finding one that uses the same tech protocol as the official one so you get that palm rejection you are looking for. I have had zero complaints with these options:

  • Logitech Crayon for iPad All Models 2018 and Later
  • This is my top pick. It is built like a tank and the palm rejection is flawless. It is usually much cheaper than Apple's version and works instantly.
  • Zagg Pro Stylus with Universal Capacitive Tip
  • This one is great because it attaches magnetically to the side of the iPad. It feels very natural for quick handwriting and the dual-tip design is handy.
  • ESR Digital Pencil for iPad with Magnetic Attachment
  • This is the best value one imo. It costs a fraction of the big brands and still gives you that smooth writing feel without any lag. Seriously, any of these will save your sanity during lectures. The battery life on the ESR specifically is something I am really satisfied with. Just make sure your iPad model is from 2018 or newer and these will work perfectly for you. You got this, let me know if you have more questions about the setup!
