I just got this basic iPad for my community college classes starting Monday and I realized I totally forgot to get a pen for it. I tried using my finger to take notes today but my handwriting looks like a five year old did it and its just so slow. I'm honestly so confused because I looked online and there are like a million different types of pens and some are $100 which I definitely cant afford right now. I have maybe $35 max to spend before my first lecture tomorrow. Does anyone know a cheap one that actually feels like writing on paper? I dont even know if they all work on every screen or if I need a specific brand or what...

Saw this earlier and had to jump in because I remember when I first started using my iPad for school. Staring at those Apple Pencil prices was like... no way lol. After going through five different knockoffs, I finally found what actually worked! Honestly, you dont need to drop $100. I swear by the JAMJAKE Stylus Pen for iPad with Palm Rejection. It is literally a lifesaver for taking fast notes in lectures! It has palm rejection technology which basically means the iPad ignores your hand resting on the screen and only tracks the pen tip. This is a total game changer for speed! My handwriting went from messy scribbles to actually readable instantly. It feels so natural once you get used to it!! One thing tho, if you want that real paper feel, the glass screen is always gonna be a bit slippery no matter what pen you use. My big pro tip is to grab something like the ESR Paper-Feel Screen Protector for iPad 10.2-inch. It adds that perfect amount of friction so your pen doesnt slide everywhere! If you cant find the Jamjake one locally before tomorrow, just look for anything labeled as an active stylus. Avoid those cheap rubber-tipped ones, they are basically just a fake finger. I also really like the ZAGG Pro Stylus for Apple iPad if you can find a warehouse deal, but for under $35, the generic active pens are honestly fantastic these days. You are gonna love how much easier your notes get once you ditch the finger writing. Seriously, it makes college life so much better!
