What are the absolute must-have things I need to get for a brand new tablet? I just treated myself to a Samsung Galaxy Tab for my birthday and honestly I am so confused by all the extra stuff in the store. I have never owned one of these before and I feel like a total idiot looking at all the options. I saved up about 450 dollars total and after buying the tablet I only have like 60 bucks left in my budget for accessories so I really cant afford to buy stuff I dont actually need. I live in a small apartment in Seattle and mostly plan on using it to watch movies while I am on the treadmill or maybe reading some books before bed.

Do I really need one of those glass screen protectors or are they a scam? I am super clumsy and drop my phone all the time so I am scared of breaking the screen on day one. Also is a keyboard necessary if I am not using it for school or work? I saw those floppy cases that turn into stands but they look kinda flimsy to me. Some people say I need a special pen too but it didn't come with one. I just want to make sure I am protected without wasting money on junk I wont use. Sorry if this is such a beginner question I just have no idea where to start...

You definitely need a screen protector if you're clumsy like me! It saved my screen so many times. I'm obsessed with the Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy Tab because it's super easy to put on. Skip the keyboard for now and get a Spigen Rugged Armor Pro Galaxy Tab Case instead. It’s amazing for watching movies on the treadmill and way more secure than those flimsy covers! Totally worth it.

Which exact Galaxy Tab model did you get? It really matters for the pen and case size. For your treadmill sessions, skip the flimsy book covers because they slide everywhere. In my experience, amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 is the best value for clumsy owners. TL;DR: Confirm your model first, then grab a glass protector and a sturdy stand like the UGREEN Tablet Stand Multi-Angle Adjustable.

Glass protectors are absolutely worth it, not a scam at all. I've seen way too many shattered screens over the years to ever skip one. They are basically cheap insurance for your display. Since you're using it on a treadmill, you definitely want a case with a solid grip because those thin folio ones will just slide off or collapse when the machine starts vibrating. Look into the Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro Series Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9. It is built like a tank and has a built-in kickstand that actually stays locked in place. Pair it with an ESR Tempered-Glass Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 and you'll be set for way less than 60 bucks total. Forget the pen and keyboard... if you're just watching movies and reading, they'll just get in your way and drain your budget for nothing. Stick to the protection basics first.

  • Honestly, if youre just watching movies on the treadmill, you can definitely skip the keyboard and the pen. Theyre just gonna sit there collecting dust. I've been super satisfied with a simple combo that fits your budget. Get the JETech Screen Protector for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE 10.9 Inch because it is cheap and works well against scratches. For the case, I recommend a Poetic TurtleSkin Heavy Duty Silicone Case for Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE. Its thick silicone and much better for drops than those flimsy folding ones. It makes the tablet way easier to hold when youre reading in bed too. This setup should leave you with some change for a snack or whatever. No need to overcomplicate things... just get the basics and enjoy it.

@Reply #4 - good point! Honestly, seeing everyone chime in just confirms that cheap insurance for your display is the way to go. Since you are worried about that treadmill setup, just make sure you dont get a case that adds too much bulk or weight, because it makes it way harder to balance on those narrow gym ledges. I learned that the hard way when I knocked my old tablet right off a machine. Everyone here pretty much agrees you can skip the keyboard and expensive pens for now. Just focus on a solid glass protector and a case that keeps a low profile. Stay away from those cheap universal stands that feel like plastic toys, they usually just slip or break after a month. I am pretty satisfied with my current minimalist setup and have had no complaints since switching over. You definitely dont need to spend your whole budget to get something reliable that lasts.
