Seriously, which of these portable laptop stands is actually gonna save my neck without being a total pain to carry around? Ive been working from coffee shops in Brooklyn like five days a week now because our apartment is a construction zone and my posture is just... well its trashed. Im literally typing this with a heating pad on my shoulders and I need something that actually works before I end up at the physical therapist.

Ive narrowed it down to like three things but Im super anxious about picking the wrong one and wasting money since my budget is strictly under $80 right now. Im looking at:

  • The Roost Stand V3
  • The Nexstand K2 which looks like a cheaper clone
  • That Moft adhesive one that sticks to the bottom

The Roost seems like the gold standard but its so expensive for what looks like mostly plastic? But then I heard the Nexstand is way bulkier and maybe wont fit in my slim Bellroy bag properly. I really need something that gets the screen up to eye level because Im tall and looking down is ruining my spine. If it wobbles while I type I will actually lose my mind. Or do I need a separate keyboard too? That seems like even more stuff to carry. I need to order something by Friday so it gets here before my next big project starts...

honestly man, i feel your pain. i was doing the same thing last year when i was bouncing between coworking spaces and my neck was basically a permanent knot. the stand i eventually picked up looks kinda like a transformer and honestly... i havent looked back since. its super light and fits right next to my water bottle in my pack. the biggest thing i learned tho? you 100% need a separate keyboard. trying to type on the laptop keyboard when its propped up at eye level is a total nightmare for your wrists. grabbing a thin mechanical one and a small mouse made the whole thing work. my current setup is solid as a rock and doesnt wobble even when im really hammering away at a deadline. im so much more comfortable now and my physical therapist is probably wondering where i went lol. definitely worth the small hassle of carrying two extra things.
