Which internal SSD expansion thingy do I actually need for my Xbox Series X because my storage is totally full and I cant even download the new Call of Duty update? I am so sorry if this is like a super basic question but I am completely lost and honestly I am getting a bit stressed out because I finally have some time off work this weekend to play but I cant fit anything else on the console. I keep seeing all these different things online like M.2 and expansion cards and external drives and I have no clue what the difference is or if they even work the same way. I tried to look it up on Amazon but there are so many options and some say they wont play the new games? That makes no sense to me like if its plugged in why wouldnt it work?
My buddy said I need an internal one to play the Series X optimized games but then I see these little cards that go in the back and I dont know if thats what he meant. I have about $150 saved up for this and I really need to get it sorted by Friday so I can get everything downloaded. I live out in a rural part of Ohio so my internet is kinda slow and it takes forever to move games back and forth so I just want one big drive where I can leave everything and just click play. Is there one brand thats better than the others? I saw one from Seagate and one from Western Digital and they look identical but the prices are different and I dont want to buy the wrong one and have to mail it back. Also is 1TB enough or should I try to stretch my budget for the 2TB one? I only have like 4 big games right now but they take up so much space its crazy. Someone please explain it to me like I am five because I really dont want to waste my money on something that wont even let me start my games...

I ran into this exact same mess last year when my storage hit the red and I couldnt even play my favorite games. It was such a headache trying to decide what to delete. I finally settled on the Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S 2TB and ive been really satisfied with it ever since. No complaints at all because it just plugs into the back and works exactly like the internal drive without any extra setup. Quick tip tho... if the 2TB price is too steep for your budget right now, you might like the Crucial X8 1TB Portable SSD for storing your older games. You cant play the new Series X optimized titles directly off an external drive like that, but you can move them back and forth between drives. Since your rural internet is slow, swapping a 100GB game only takes like 5-10 minutes instead of waiting all day for a download. It keeps your main expansion slot open for the big stuff like Call of Duty.

I was literally in your shoes when Starfield dropped! You absolutely need the expansion card slot for those new games. I love my Western Digital WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox 1TB, it is fantastic and super fast!
- Western Digital WD_BLACK C50 1TB: Cheaper and works perfectly.
- Seagate Storage Expansion Card 1TB: Amazing but usually pricier. tbh just get the WD and save some cash!
