The Nintendo Switch has been a hugely successful console, but rumors are starting to swirl about the inevitable next generation Switch 2. Based on Nintendo's history and the trajectory of the current Switch, here are some things I think we can expect:
What do you think the Switch 2 needs to include to be a worthy upgrade? What's on your wish list? Let's discuss!
There's been a lot of buzz lately about the potential Nintendo Switch 2, and I wanted to share some of the key points from a recent article I read. While Nintendo hasn't officially confirmed a second-generation Switch yet, company president Shuntaro Furukawa did state that an announcement about the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be made within this fiscal year (ending March 31, 2025).
So what can we expect from the Switch 2? Here are some of the rumored features and specs:
In terms of games, there are rumors of a new 3D Mario game being developed in Unreal Engine 4 as a launch title, as well as a new Mario Kart game (dubbed Mario Kart X) coming in the second year. Other rumored titles include an enhanced Bayonetta Trilogy and a Final Fantasy VII Remake port that "looks and runs like a PS5 game."
Of course, take all of this with a grain of salt until we get official confirmation from Nintendo. But based on the company's track record and the success of the original Switch, I have high hopes that the Switch 2 will be another game-changer.
Please release in 2024.
@super_blower Not likely, the official release date could be in early 2025.
Saved for later, ty!
I'm really hoping Nintendo upgrades the hardware specs for the Switch 2. The current Switch is underpowered compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X. It would be great to see the Switch 2 have an improved CPU/GPU, more RAM, and a higher resolution screen. 4K output when docked would also be a big step up. Nintendo's first-party games would look amazing with better graphics!
Waiting for Switch 2.
Backwards compatibility is a must for me. I've invested so much in Switch games, I'd hate to lose access to that library. It would be great if they could enhance some of the existing games to take advantage of the new hardware too, kind of like what the PS4 Pro did.
