Just dropped a fortune on the PS5 Pro pre-order and now I'm panicking about what else I actually need. I realized way too late it doesn't come with the vertical stand and my media console is way too narrow to lay it flat so I'm terrified of it tipping or overheating. Plus I have a huge stack of physical games so I gotta hunt for that disc drive which seems sold out everywhere in London. Aside from the stand and drive is there anything critical I'm missing for the PSSR features? Do I need a better HDMI 2.1 cable than the one in the box or am I overthinking this? I'm already way over budget...

Honestly dont stress about the HDMI cable. The one Sony packs in is a legit Ultra High Speed cable and handles 4K/120Hz or 8K just fine. Save your money there. Since youre already over budget, here is what actually matters for a Pro setup based on my testing:

  • The Sony PlayStation 5 Disc Drive for PS5 Digital Edition Slim/Pro is your biggest headache right now. Pros: Essential for your physical collection and 4K blu-rays. Cons: Massive scalp prices and stock issues in the UK. Honestly, wait for a restock at a regular retailer because paying double on eBay is a waste of cash.
  • For storage, that 2TB internal is a good start but Pro enhanced games are huge. I compared two solid options for the expansion slot: 1. WD_BLACK SN850X 2TB NVMe SSD with Heatsink
  • This is my go-to recommendation. Its incredibly reliable, stays cool under load, and usually retails for significantly less than the competition. 2. Samsung 990 Pro 2TB M.2 NVMe SSD with Heatsink
  • Technically has slightly higher peak speeds but you wont notice the difference in actual loading times. Only worth it if you find a deep discount.
  • The Sony PlayStation 5 Vertical Stand for PS5 Slim/Pro is basically mandatory for your narrow console setup. Third-party ones are popping up but they often feel a bit flimsy for a machine this expensive... the official one is overpriced but stable. Skip the fancy cables and external cooling docks. Just keep the back of the console open for airflow and you are golden.

Adding my two cents... I spent way too long messing with my Pro settings before realizing my display was the bottleneck for PSSR. Most people forget the screen is half the battle.

  • verify your display supports VRR
  • check for a 120Hz refresh rate What screen are you actually plugging this into? Also, are you looking for better framerates or is resolution your main priority?
