Building a PC with an Intel 14500. What's the best motherboard to pair with it? Budget is around $200.

Regarding what #4 said about "For a 14500, be careful with VRM temps!", they hit the nail on the head. I've built dozens of these mid-range rigs over the years and nothing kills performance faster than a board that cant handle the boost cycles. I remember one specific build where the guy used a cheap entry-level board and the VRMs hit 105C in ten minutes... the chip was throttling like crazy and he thought his CPU was broken. I usually steer people toward the Gigabyte B760 AORUS ELITE AX DDR5 because it honestly feels like a high-end board for way less cash. While the MSI options mentioned are good, I've found the Gigabyte boards a bit more forgiving for first-timers.

  • Thermal management: The heatsinks are actual heavy chunks of metal, not just thin plastic shrouds that look pretty.
  • Power stages: It has a 12+1+1 phase design which is way more than that 14500 actually needs, meaning it runs cool and quiet.
  • IO: You get way more USB ports on the back than the basic MSI boards usually offer at this price point. MSI is a solid choice too, dont get me wrong, but in my experience Gigabyte has been more consistent with their BIOS stability for the 14th gen stuff lately. Just make sure whatever you pick has those beefy heatsinks Pennycen mentioned or you're gonna leave performance on the table.

Hey! I paired my 14500 with an MSI B760M Mortar WiFi. Got it for around $160. Super happy with it! No crazy overclocking, just solid gaming and everyday stuff. Works well, no complaints so far. Are you planning on overclocking? That might change things!

VRM temps are KEY with the 14500! Consider MSI B760 Tomahawk; beefy heatsinks are fantastic!

For a 14500, be careful with VRM temps! I'd suggest an MSI board with good heatsinks. Make sure to check reviews on VRM temps under load. Peace of mind is priceless!
