My iPhone 15 Pro Max has been freezing frequently and becoming unresponsive. Regular restart doesn't seem to help anymore. I've tried the usual volume up/down + side button combination, but I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly to avoid any damage to my device.
Can someone provide step-by-step instructions for a hard reset? Also, should I back up my data first? I'm concerned about losing important information. Are there any precautions I should take before proceeding?

RTX9090 has it right, thats the sequence. I've had to do that way too many times on my own 15 Pro Max already and honestly, it's pretty disappointing. For a phone that costs this much, it's not as good as I expected it to be... had issues with it locking up since the first week. Last month I almost missed a huge family photo because the screen just stayed black. Super annoying. Before you think about spending money on a diagnostic or a repair shop though, I've got a couple questions:
- Is the freezing happening in specific apps, or is it just random UI lag?
- Roughly how much storage space do you have left? Sometimes these things act up if the storage is nearly full, and clearing it out is a lot cheaper than a service fee. Just wanna make sure it's not a hardware dud before you get too far into it.

The button sequence might take a few tries to get right. Important: Do these steps quickly, one after another!
- Click Vol+ (don't hold)
- Click Vol- (don't hold)
- Hold side button until screen goes black and Apple logo shows
Don't worry, this won't delete any data.
