Hi everyone! My iPod Touch has been acting up lately, and I think a hard reset might help. I’ve tried the usual methods, but nothing seems to work. Can anyone guide me through the steps to perform a hard reset on my iPod Touch? I’m not sure if the process is different for various models, so any specific instructions would be appreciated. TIA.

Jumping in real quick because the Apple iPod Touch 7th Generation actually uses a different combo than the older ones. Since it is basically running on the same logic as the iPhone 7, the buttons changed.

  • Hold the Top button and the Volume Down button simultaneously.
  • Keep holding until that Apple logo pops up. If that doesnt do the trick and its still acting glitchy, you might need to kick it into Recovery Mode by holding the Home button while plugging it into a PC with Apple iTunes installed. Honestly works most of the time when a simple force restart fails tho.

Wait, just curious, which specific model are you rocking? I'm asking because an older one I used to have gave me a total headache when it froze up. Being pretty cautious with my gear is my thing since I hate spending money on repairs or replacements, so the thought of jamming the buttons too hard and making it worse really stressed me out. Tbh, I just let the thing sit in a drawer for two days until the battery died completely, then plugged it back in... and it actually worked perfectly after that. No complaints here, it was a free fix! Just wondering if yours is as stubborn as mine was lol. Knowing the exact version helps tho so we dont steer you wrong.

Here's how to hard reset (force restart) an iPod Touch:

  1. Press and hold both the Top/Power button and Home button simultaneously
  2. Hold both buttons for about 10 seconds
  3. Release when you see the Apple logo appear

This works for most iPod Touch models. If your device doesn't have a Home button (latest models), press and quickly release the Volume Up button, then Volume Down button, then press and hold the Top/Power button until you see the Apple logo.
