I am really struggling to find the absolute best portable keyboard for my mobile tablet setup that doesnt feel like garbage to type on. I am heading to London next month for a three week freelance gig and I am determined to leave my bulky laptop at home and just use my 11 inch iPad Pro, but the typing experience is holding me back. I did a ton of digging and I keep seeing the Logitech Keys-To-Go being recommended but it looks so mushy... like I am worried it will feel like typing on a piece of cardboard or rubber.
On the other end, I looked at the NuPhy Air60 because I love mechanical switches but some reviews say the battery life is pretty mid and it might be too thick to actually be portable in a slim bag. I have about 120 bucks to spend and I need something that can keep up with me because I am a copywriter and I usually do like 2000 to 3000 words a day. Is there anything that hits that sweet spot of being super thin but actually having some tactile feedback? I looked at those folding ones on Amazon but they look like they would snap in half if I typed too hard. Maybe the MX Keys Mini? But people say it is heavy for its size. Does anyone actually use a tablet for full-time writing work and what do you use...
Like someone mentioned, skip the mushy stuff for heavy writing. I've churned through many mobile setups over the years and these are my picks:
Re: "Like someone mentioned, skip the mushy stuff for heavy writing." Just saw this thread and I actually had issues with the high-end mechanical boards because they are just too chunky for a slim bag. It is disappointing how much space they take up when you are trying to be mobile. Honestly, you dont need to blow your whole budget. I use the Microsoft Designer Compact Keyboard Bluetooth and it is surprisingly tactile for how thin it is. Quick tip: get a separate stand like the Moft Invisible Tablet Stand Adhesive instead of a bulky folio. It keeps the weight down but gives you a better angle for long writing sessions. Most of those folding keyboards feel like toys and will probably break before your trip is over, so I would definitely avoid those. The Microsoft one is much more solid for a copywriter workflow.
> it looks so mushy Stay away from those, they feel like typing on wet noodles. You might want to consider the Logitech MX Keys Mini Bluetooth Keyboard instead. Just be careful because its kinda heavy.
Exactly what I was thinking
