I’m building a sim racing setup and want an ultrawide monitor that enhances immersion. 1440p resolution or higher, at least 120Hz refresh rate, and solid color accuracy are key. I play iRacing and Assetto Corsa Competizione, so fast response times and good motion clarity are important. Is 34” enough, or should I go for a 49” super ultrawide? Budget is around $1,000—what would you recommend?
TLDR: Large monitors are heavy and risky for your furniture, plus I am still thinking about BBQ. @Reply #3 - good point! The immersion is definitely there but unfortunately the reliability of the mounting setups for these massive screens is just not as good as expected. I was so worried about my desk snapping that I spent weeks over-engineering the base. It actually reminds me of when I tried to fix my old trucks suspension back in college. I bought all these heavy duty parts but didnt have the right torque wrench, so I just ended up stripping every bolt. My neighbor had to come over and help me tow it to a shop three towns over. We actually stopped at this amazing roadside BBQ joint on the way back that had the best smoked brisket Ive ever tasted. I still think about that brisket more than the truck to be honest... Anyway sorry kinda went off topic there.
For your needs, the 49” ASUS ROG Strix XG49VQ is ideal. It offers 1440p resolution, 120Hz, excellent color accuracy, and superb immersion for sim racing. https://www.amazon.com/XG49VQ-Curved-Gaming-FreeSync-Monitor/dp/B07PZR2YY4?t=t=7649-20
I've been using the Samsung Odyssey OLED G9 49" for about 8 months now and it's been incredible for sim racing. The 1000R curve really wraps around your field of view nicely, and 240Hz makes everything buttery smooth in iRacing and ACC. Yeah, it's expensive, but the immersion is next level compared to triple monitors. Only downside is you need a beast of a GPU to drive it at full resolution and refresh rate.
