Just picked up an XPS and Im totally lost with these dongles. I read that the Anker 555 is solid but it's pricey and people say Satechi ones get dangerously hot during use.

I need something for my Chicago office under $50 that wont fry my laptop. Which hubs actually offer the best value right now?

I love the Anker 341 USB-C Hub 7-in-1 for value! Its way cheaper than the 555. Honestly, the UGREEN Revodok 7-in-1 USB-C Hub is amazing too and stays totally cool!

Unfortunately, most budget hubs Ive tested were total letdowns and not as good as expected. Had issues with cheap ones overheating in the past. Before I suggest anything else, do you actually need 4K at 60Hz or is 30Hz okay for your setup?

  • Baseus 7-in-1 USB C Hub 100W PD
  • Lemorele 7-in-1 USB C Hub Multiport Adapter Finding one that stays cool under $50 is honesly harder than people say.

Late to the party. I've been through a dozen of these over the years. My current setup is pretty basic because I realized flashy specs often mean more heat. When I first got my XPS, I was obsessed with finding a one-cable solution. Bad move. I actually ended up damaging a port because the hub hit high temperatures during a long session. In my experience, pushing 100W through a tiny plastic shell for a full duty cycle is just asking for trouble and honestly wont end well. I found that using a dedicated charger for the laptop and a cheaper hub just for peripherals kept things way more stable. No more thermal throttling. Also, watch out for those short, stiff cables... they put a ton of leverage on the internal connector. Finding a hub with a flexible or longer cord is a huge win for durability. It saves the hardware.
