what air coolers are actually gonna keep a high end ryzen like the 7900x from melting because honestly im seeing some scary stuff online about these chips hitting 95c instantly and it makes me super anxious. i have about 70-80 quid to spend and im in the uk so some of the us brands are hard to find. i read that the noctua nh-d15 is the go-to but then i saw reviews saying the thermalright peerless assassin performs basically the same for half the price but how is that even possible? i dont want to cheap out and then have my pc shut down during a render especially since i have a freelance video editing gig starting in two weeks and i need this rig stable. plus i have tall ram sticks (corsair vengeance) and im worried these massive dual tower things wont even fit in my case. does the peerless assassin actually work for the new am5 offset or should i just bite the bullet and get the noctua even if it breaks my budget... i just dont want to mess this up and fry my new build.

> how is that even possible? i dont want to cheap out I was super skeptical about the price too but I bought the Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE Dual Tower CPU Air Cooler for my latest build and it is legit. Honestly saved like forty quid compared to those big brands. Fitting it over my tall ram was tight tho... i just had to slide the front fan up a tiny bit. Keeps my temps stable for long exports just fine.

Just saw this thread while looking for some benchmarks myself. Honestly, im super satisfied with how my current air cooling setup handles heavy loads, but I have a couple of questions so I dont give you bad advice. What case are you actually building in? Since you have the Corsair Vengeance DDR5 sticks, the total height clearance from your motherboard to the side panel is gonna be the deciding factor for whether these beefy coolers even fit without hitting the glass. Also, are you planning to run the 7900x at its default 170w TDP or are you open to using Eco Mode? It makes a massive difference in those 95c spikes you're worried about without losing much performance for your video editing work.

I totally feel you on the 95c thing, it is absolutely terrifying when you first see it! Honestly tho, these chips are designed to handle it, but i totally get the peace of mind factor. I used to be so obsessed with reliability that i basically turned my home office into a data center because i was so scared of components failing during a project.

  • i ended up buying a massive industrial floor fan just to point at my open case
  • my desk was covered in sensors and extra cables everywhere
  • the noise was so loud i had to wear noise-cancelling headphones just to check my email It was a total nightmare looking back but man, i learned so much about how much abuse these parts can actually take! My current setup is way more sensible now but that phase was wild... my cat wouldnt even come in the room because of the wind speed lol. anyway, just saying dont let the numbers freak you out too much, but yeah.

  • Honestly i felt exactly the same way when i started my build last month! it felt like such a risk buying something so cheap for a beastly chip like the 7900x but man, these thermalright guys are just killing it right now. i ended up going with the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE instead of the peerless assassin because it has an extra heat pipe and it is absolutely amazing for the price!! i was so nervous about my first render but it stayed totally stable and didnt even hit those scary 95c peaks everyone talks about. seriously saved me so much cash compared to the noctua stuff and i used that extra money to grab some better case fans instead! if you are worried about the ram height, i just moved the front fan up a tiny bit and it works like a charm with the tall sticks. you're gonna love how much you save without losing performance, its honestly such a win for budget builders like us! definitely check amazon uk, they usually have them in stock for like 35 quid which is a total steal.
