I'm planning my first gaming PC but my budget is tight. Looking for CPU recommendations that won't break the bank (under $300) but can handle modern games at decent settings.
Which would you choose? Most important to me is good FPS in games like Fortnite and Valorant without major bottlenecks when paired with a budget GPU.
Thanks for any advice!
Been thinking about your question for a few hours now... honestly, when I built my current setup, I made the mistake of putting almost my whole budget into the gpu. I thought it wouldnt matter as much for 1080p gaming, but I was so wrong. I remember my first build had this budget chip that technically met the specs, but in games like valorant, my frame times were a total mess. Even if I was getting high average fps, it felt choppy. It wasnt until I switched to the one I got now that I realized how much the cpu architecture actually matters for stability. I learned that for those esports titles, you really cant cut too many corners on the processor or youll just end up with a bottleneck that ruins the high refresh rate experience. The way the cpu handles draw calls for those high-action scenes is basically what determines if you win a fight or lag out at the worst moment. Kinda wish I had just spent a bit more upfront instead of having to tear the whole thing apart six months later to fix it.
