Is this contact frame thing actually worth the hassle? Ive seen people claim it drops temps by like 10 degrees but others say its just marketing junk that risks voiding your warranty. Im building a new 14th gen rig in the UK next week and honestly Im just frustrated with all the conflicting info online.

  • Budget for parts is tight so is it worth the 30 quid?
  • Mainly gaming and light rendering
  • Need a solution that wont crack my chip

Should I just stick to the stock mount or is it legitimately safer for the CPU?

Tbh the whole contact frame thing is a bit of a rabbit hole. On 14th gen Intel, the stock ILM can cause the integrated heat spreader to bow, which is why people push these frames so hard. But honestly, before you drop cash on a Thermal Grizzly Intel Contact Frame LGA1700, I need to know which motherboard you chose? Some of the higher end boards have slightly different tolerance levels for those mounts.

  • It helps with pressure distribution
  • Might void parts of your motherboard warranty
  • Installation requires being extremely careful not to over-tighten If your budget is tight, that 30 quid might be better spent on a better cooler like the DeepCool AK620 Air Cooler 120mm fans which handles heat way better than stock gear anyway. Just make sure you are super gentle if you decide to go for it.
