Im honestly so done with my current setup. Ive been using this old 27 inch flat panel for iRacing and the ghosting is just killing me, literally cant even see the apex on tight turns without it turning into a blurry mess. It is making me lose focus and honestly my laptimes are suffering big time. I thought I could live with it but after last nights endurance race my eyes were actually hurting from straining so much. I need something that actually wraps around my field of view because the flat screen just feels so disconnected from the cockpit feel im trying to go for.

I have about 800 bucks saved up for this and I really want to pull the trigger this week because i have a big league event coming up in like ten days and I dont want to be the guy causing a pileup because I couldnt see where I was going lol. I was looking at some of the ultrawide stuff but there are so many options and I keep hearing about black smearing on VA panels which is exactly what im trying to avoid.

  • must be at least 34 inches
  • high refresh rate is a non negotiable
  • preferably something with a decent stand since I dont have a monitor arm yet

Is there a specific curved monitor you guys swear by for racing sims that wont break the bank but actually performs well?

Regarding what #1 said about "Honestly, iRacing is brutal on panels with slow transition times", they are totally spot on! I have been through three different setups and the ghosting on cheap VAs is a total immersion killer. For 800 bucks, you actually have some amazing options that wont let you down in a pack race.

  • LG 34GP83A-B 34 inch UltraGear QHD 160Hz Nano IPS: This is a total beast! Since it uses an IPS panel, the motion clarity is fantastic and you wont get that nasty black smearing on night tracks. The stand is pretty solid too.
  • Alienware AW3423DWF 34 inch Curved QD-OLED 165Hz: If you catch this on sale (it hits 799 often), jump on it! The near-instant response time is unbelievable for hitting apexes. The contrast is mind-blowing. Personally, I would go IPS or OLED for sim racing because the clarity is just on another level compared to standard VA panels. Youre gonna love the upgrade!

Adding my two cents here because I went through three monitors before I found one that didnt make me dizzy in corners. I started with a 32-inch that had terrible stand wobble, and every time I would shift gears on my rig, the whole screen would shake... it was a nightmare. If you are looking at that 800 range, you might want to consider the Dell S3422DWG 34-inch Curved Gaming Monitor because its way under budget and actually has a decent stand for the price. Quick question tho, what kind of GPU are you running? Pushing 1440p ultrawide at high refresh is a lot harder than a standard 27-inch and I wouldnt want you to buy it then realize you cant hit your target frames. Two quick things to watch for:

  • Make sure your desk is deep enough; these ultrawide stands take up way more room than you would think.
  • Double check the height adjustment specs so it actually lines up with your eye level.

Honestly if you want that wrap-around feel for iRacing you really gotta look at Samsung. The 1000R curve they use on their gaming displays is absolutely mental! It matches the natural human field of view so well, its like youre actually sitting in the cockpit and it makes hitting those apexes so much more natural. Their panels are super reliable for those long endurance stints too and the pixel response times are usually top tier so you wont have to worry about that blurry mess you are dealing with now... seriously its a total game changer for immersion. Just go with any of the Samsung curved gaming screens that fit your budget and you are gonna be golden for your league race. You cant go wrong with their tech tbh!

Honestly, iRacing is brutal on panels with slow transition times. I have been sim racing for over a decade and I have seen so many people regret buying the first big screen they see. If you are trying to avoid black smearing, you really need to be careful with any VA panel in that price range. I would strongly advise looking for an IPS ultrawide instead if you want to keep that motion clarity. You might want to consider these factors before you buy:

  • Make sure to check real-world reviews for ghosting in dark transitions, not just the marketing specs.
  • Be cautious of monitors with flimsy stands because ultrawides tend to wobble a lot during heavy gear shifts or ffb spikes.
  • I would suggest looking for a 1000R or 1500R curve to actually help with your peripheral vision without distorting the image too much. It is easy to get blinded by a high refresh rate on a spec sheet, but if the panel cant keep up with fast-moving pixels, it is just gonna be a blurry mess again.
