So I finally got my Series X a few months ago but I been playing on this old 1080p tv from like 2015 and its honestly starting to look terrible. I really want to jump up to 1440p because 4k monitors that actually do 120hz are way out of my budget and honestly I sit so close to my desk anyway so 27 inches is the sweet spot. Im getting super anxious about picking the wrong one though because I keep reading about how some monitors dont play nice with the Xbox VRR or they dont actually support 120hz over HDMI even if they say they do. Its so confusing and I dont want to waste money.

Right now I am torn between the LG 27GP850-B and the Gigabyte M27Q Pro. I heard the LG has better colors but the contrast is kinda mid and I play a lot of horror games like Dead Space so I dont want the blacks looking all grey and washed out. But then I heard the Gigabyte has some weird subpixel layout that makes text look blurry which would suck because I also use this for school stuff sometimes.

Here is what I am dealing with:

  • Budget: Trying to stay under $350 but I can push to $400 if it actually makes a big difference.
  • Space: Small corner desk so 27 inch is the max I can fit.
  • Timeline: Need it by next Friday before my time off starts so I can just binge games.
  • Use case: Mostly Halo, CoD, and then some single player RPGs.

I also saw the Dell G2724D mentioned a lot lately as a newer option but I cant tell if its better than the LG. I just need to know which one of these is gonna give me the smoothest 120fps experience without flickering or that weird screen tearing. Is the LG actually worth the extra money or is the Gigabyte just as good for a console? I feel like I'm totally overthinking this but I really dont want to have to deal with returning a giant box to the post office if I hate it...

I got the LG 27GP850-B 27-inch Ultragear QHD Nano IPS and been super happy.

  • 120Hz works via HDMI
  • Colors are amazing Honestly works well. No complaints tho.

I was super nervous about picking a bad panel too but this thing is absolutely amazing for the Series X. Since you mentioned doing school work, the text is super crisp because it has a standard subpixel layout... way better than that Gigabyte for reading documents. It handles 120Hz over HDMI perfectly and the VRR is rock solid so you wont get those weird brightness flickers in dark games like Dead Space. Love it! Quick tip: just use the ultra high speed cable that came in the Xbox box. A lot of people use old HDMI cables and then get frustrated when 120Hz doesnt show up in the settings. Stick with the original and you are golden!

Honestly, just grab a Dell. Ive used a few and they handle Xbox VRR better than others. You dont get the flickering issues that show up on some cheaper panels tho.
